who do you think has the best resume considering their relatively low level of ability? the reverse gets talked about a lot, lopez, pryor etc. but this question is arguably just as interesting.
I don't know, I'd have to think about it. As said earlier in the thread, it is really just hypothetical because usually fighters with great resumes have great ability. But if you'll allow me to be controversial I could throw a name out there!
the best answers to this question will always be the fighters who are more reliant on their physical attributes... not that those aren't skills in their own right. i'd say someone like foreman achieved a fair amount in boxing with pretty limited skills (not that his resume is amazing or anything).
I agree. I may rate him higher than top 30 now, but he is the ONLY fighter in my lifetime that I would consider for top ten. If he were to beat Floyd, especially by KO, that would seal the deal for me. I may even rate him in the top ten at the end of his career anyway. If Floyd won't come out from under the bed to fight him, then a third fight with Marquez would be good along with some others. Manny is for real!
You could say that, but when I say 'ability' I don't necessarily mean technical ability, it just basically means overall effectiveness when I say it, and Foreman was damn effective. But I get your point definitely.
well you know what, in that case your first call of de la hoya is the one. that can't be bettered. his run until the hopkins fight was remarkable. makes you wonder how he pulled it off...
Yeah, I agree. I was just messing around saying Pacquiao, Oscar it is then. Although personally I didn't think he won all of those fights he was credited with winning, but I thought he beat Tito. Anyway, you coudl disagree on the ones I thought were bad decisions and I couldn't say you are definitely wrong. :good
The old timers who fought everyone, they didn't necessarily have to be much better than their peers, just a little or perhaps just caught everyone at the right time and they get the 'luxury' of a stacked resume. A modern fighter may actually be far better but not have the chance to prove it on as many occasions. Resume is actually overrated, it is testiment to ability, but it doesn't necessarily donate a greater ability than someone less proven but perhaps more talented
so what ones are there, whitaker, trinidad and mosley II? out of those i think he won the fight against trinidad and the other two were really close. i'd say the case for de la hoya was stronger in mosley II. either way, it was a solid run.
Yeah I agree with your pick of Oscar regardless. But I had him losing by a point to Quartey, drawing with Whitaker, beating Tito and beating Mosley in the rematch.
