You could argue that someone likes Dempsey makes the top ATG lists too much. Now taking a close look at Dempsey's resume, there are a ton of fighters with better ones out there. I mean he was a top HW of his time. ATG lists shouldnt be bias towards HW's so if we consider about 11 different weight classes, each era separated by about 10 years, having about 1-2 great fighters in each class per era, that would mean well over 100 great fighters ruling their weight division in their own era. All possibly having bettered Dempsey's resume yet Jack is considered to be top 30 atleast in most ATG list.

He isn't in my top 50 P4P, or even that close. He barely makes my top 10 HW's.

But, to counter your point, it isn't all about resumes either, it's about dominance and in-ring performance, which is why someone like Roy Jones ranks so highly.

RJJ has 2 top 30 ATG's on his resume aswell as a few other HOF'ers. Dominance over top guys is acceptable but who did dempsey dominate that was elite. He lost to the only ATG on his resume...

Well, first of all, Jones beat an arguable top 50(maybe even arguably top 40) fighter in Hopkins, when both were young(Hopkins further from his prime). I don't seem to recall any other top 50-60 fighter in his resume to be honest. Toney? Maybe top 75, maybe not. CERTAINLY not top 30.

Also, I do think you underrate Dempsey's resume quite a bit. Wins over guys like Willard, Sharkey, Firpo, Gibbons, Carpentier, Brennan, Miske, Gunboat Smith, Levinsky, Meehan, etc. are nothing to be scoffed at. I'd say his resume could be ranked above Toney's.

I've got him 81st on my list just behind Morales, if he beat's Khan and then goes on and win's a lightweight Title he'll be higher.

Behind DLH and Tito..Just behind Morales.

I voted inside the top100 but I think I might have him just outside it.

He wouldnt be any higher than 85-90 IMO.

    I had MAB around 85-90 I think.

I have him above Trinidad, Mosley, Wright and Tszyu, but a little below Oscar.

I have him slightly higher than Tito and Mosley, but well clear of Wright and Tszyu.

I had Erik three or four spots behind MAB. I would never go to war with anyone who had it the other way, but for me it's one of the 'close but clear' variety. In my eyes, Barrera got the better of Morales h2h and has a slightly better resume (their h2h is actually the deciding factor there too), so personally I cannot have Morales higher than Barrera in my own list, but I would never take anyone to task for having it the other way around because they are so so closely matched.
