I'll copy/paste what I wrote in the other thread. 3x's Welterweight Champion (WBA, WBO & IBF) W/Wins over 2 current P4P fighter's. (Martinez & Cotto) Great resume of opponents win/lose. Fun to watch, great conditioning/chin & unquestionable heart. Don't matter where he ranks, Just glad I got to watch him fight.
He was very exciting to watch in every fight. His career will always be tainted by the glove scandal though. I personally wanted to have closure on the whole ordeal but it sounds like they never really resolved it.
Yup. Too bad about the glove scandal. I always thought that he would go down as a legend, not in terms of being one of the best, but legendary for his incredible fights. Kind of like Gatti. The loaded gloves ruined everything. Definitely doesnt rank high amongst the mexican greats.
Not my place to rank. But being a 3x champion with a couple cherries on his record. (busted cherries: Martinez/Cintron/Cotto) Not bad.
Behind all these and probably some more: Julio Cesar Chavez Salvador Sanchez Vicente Saldivar Ricardo Lopez Miguel Canto Ruben Olivares Marco Antonio Barrera Erik Morales Juan Manuel Marquez Gaspar Ortega Carlos Zarate Humberto Gonzalez Daniel Zaragoza Rodolfo Casanova Chucho Castillo Rafael Herrera Kid Azteca Baby Arizmendi Raul Macias
Dumb enough to not feel pain...And missing a few wires that connect his chin to his brain. As far as rank? Margarito is the best Magician in Mexico. He was able to wrap his hands in plaster while sipping on Ephedra tea all in the middle of conducting an interview in is dressing room. He is Boxing's Chris Angel.
