Because I can assess a fighters true standing better than Lance_Uppercut can? Lance_Uppercut needs 'name' statistic fights to assess a guy?

Was Jhonny Tapia a supreme being, with superior genetics to most other fighters, save for Roy Jones Jr? Not that Jones was ever a supreme being anyway.

It's also called staying busy while you're being ducked, a fight with Montiel has been rumoured to be in the works for March-April, which is a 115 unification match.

Do you know what happened specifically in the match between Mijares and Luis Maldonado when they fought to a draw? From the online reports, it doesn't seem like it was a robbery draw. Maldonado is a B level fighter who's there to be hit and I can't see how Mijares could possibly have trouble with him.. especially after you've brainwashed this forum into thinking he's an unbeatable God. The same Maldonado was even stopped by Vic and won a robbery decision against sum bum in his last fight!

    Mijares is a God.

Here's the real deal however, it was a dodgy decision, but not a 'really' dodgy decision.

Mijares is a work in progress, his major flaw is that he has a nasty habit of fighting someone elses fight, though he's done much better with that recently in sticking to his gameplan. A bit of it is the latino machismo factor, the superiority game, but it also can lose you rounds.

Guzman is guilty of this also, giving rounds away to Barrios that he could have easily won but then owning Soto with a better gameplan in another fight.

    Make more sense now?

Mijares fought Kawashima's fight first go around, 8-4 was the real score, the Japanese judges had it an SD.

Second fight, he fought his gameplan and basically Arce'd him, brutal stoppage after a wonderful beatdown and only gave 2 rounds away.

Either way, Mijares is scary to fight, because he's wickedly accurate, and times 4-5 shot combinations behind a power shot jab and they lack the power to really knock a guy out, but have the power to really **** you up physically and to mess your brain up also.

He's the kind of guy that can give brain damage due to high amount landed accuratly and most people don't want to **** with that.

fly/superfly is ridiculously loaded with talent, the problem with the smaller divisions is that its difficult to make these big fights happen. part of it is the lack of name recognition and drawing power that fails to attract $ and keep everyone happy. these 'small man superfights' usually get second billing as part of the 'ppv big fight' undercard (not a bad idea as ppv buyers get quality fights for their $). case in point the second 'castillo-munoz' fight, for top division ranks, was the undercard of pac-morales 2. that was a great fight, that imo had equal (some would say better) standing as the main event in terms of quality. arce-mijares was the undercard for pac-solis, and that fight was a big fight for the division. expect to see these big named little guys to co-headline some of the upcoming big fights next year.

Yeah, I saw those Kawashima fights and I recognized Mijares' talent after he beat Arce.. but it's hard for me to really like him and not feel guilty because every time I see him it reminds me of that beat down. :-( I've been an Arce supporter for a long time and watching that fight was a unexpected bad experience. I never saw Mijares before that and I thought Arce could get permanently damaged. That was the worst destruction of an elite (or at least near elite) fighter I've ever seen.

Did you actually watch the Maldonado fight? He must have gotten really wild there because if he was just brawling the way Guzman was brawling Barrios, it's still hard for me to see how he wouldn't win almost all the rounds.

One thing I didn't see you hype with Mijares is his power. He doesn't have very good power, but he's not featherfisted like most people think. He got a lot of those decision wins when he was a teenager and he has some pretty impressive stoppages from the last 2 years.

The one thing I disagree with you about and I'm not sure if you're serious about is when you say that his division (and around there) is very deep right now. Montiel is the top challenge for him, but after that the competition isn't too great. I like Kirilov, but he's isn't near elite. Maybe Banal/Donaire will turn out to be elite fighters. Munoz isn't that special.. Castillo is, but he seems to be fading. Penalosa isn't great. That new Mexican prospect from the Guzman undercard didn't look special. I'm not sure if I'm forgetting anyone, but you can't say that these divisions are much deeper than 147 right now. Superbantam is deep right now, but even you probably wouldn't give him much of a chance against Vasquez/Marquez. He could get a title from Ponce De Leon though.

Guzman is my number two for this moment. Just ahead of the more sluggish Floyd.
