You knock them down or take them down, and wind up in their guard. Who is the most dangerous on a second-to-second basis to grab the submission? Where do you rank Mir on the list of heavyweights who you can never be comfortable seeing your favourite fighter on the ground with him?

hes top three without argument imo. theres alot of guys that might beat him there but you can only go off what has actually happened and his record so far is sensational.

Mir would probably be top 3 IMO.

Werdum for me is the #1 for grappling in the HW division.

Awful ? Thats probably a stretch my man. Remember the submission he got on Pete Williams. You cant be that good everywhere else on the ground but have an "awful" guard. I wouldnt say his guard is a Werdum or Nogueira like guard but its not bad.

To answer the question id rank Frank Mir number 1 if your talking about all around danger. Mir is the kinda guy who rarely sets things up and and hes very brutal with it. Look at the fights with Nog 2nd time, Traven, Lesnar, Sylvia etc. Not the best but IMO the most dangerous because you usually dont see it coming then all of a sudden an arm is broke.

However the TS mentioned falling into the guys guard and in that case I would have to go with Big Nog. Nog has one of the best guards in MMA history and it doesnt have to be full guard it can be butterfly, half, spider-guard (watch his Pride fights for this). Nog has incredible triangles and armbars and his sweeps are beautiful. Agian go watch some Pride fights and see how many times he hits those beautiful half guard sweeps.

I do agree with you jimmie Technically he's very capable of using his guard to set up subs, it's just when he get punched he fails miserably to get the **** out of dodge or neutralise the threat. He turns into a punch bag.

He is dangerous of course, but mainly against over zealous guys like Brock 1 or Nog 2, or guys with little or no ground pedigree like Tank and Timmy. Stuff a TD and hit him and he's lost in there. Pin him to the mat and allow him no space, and he's virtually incapable of sweeping or pulling a defensive guard, and basically turtles up.

Mir is dangerous, if you let him bully you or make an error when turning his face into mush. I know waiting for an opponent to make a mistake is the bread and butter of a good BJJ fighter, but Mir is too reliant on this. That's where the whole inconsistent tag stems from

Good ground submissions, and two thrilling wins when he looked beat. But no where near top 3 for me

    Top 5.

Number 1 in terms of worry if he is about to lock up a sub.

he's sort of like Ali. We never got to see him in his prime. Got his leg broke in a motorcycle accident as an undefeated champ, sits out all that time then finally comes back as a fat junkie. :-(

Nice to have seen what he could have done in those 2-3 years.

No matter whay anyone says, he's a bad mother****er.

    He is nothing like Ali.

We saw Mir lose early on. We learned he doesn't take a punch very well. He has never been considered the best in his sport at any given time.

I really don't see the semblance.
