Where does oscar de la hoya rank?

    At WW he did lose to tito (I had it a victory for hoya), then shortly after lost to SSM. If you wanna count tito as a win, we can easily count Quartey and Whittaker as a loss. His WW run of opposition was truly supreme.

    at JW he never fought Tzsyu and at LW he never fought Gonzalez. He was number 1 there, I agree, I just like to see fighters establish linearity.

    As I said in prior posts, I think Hoya is great, my post you responded to was mainly me playing devils advocate.

    Well i feel that OScar beat whittaker by 3 points,, and edged Quartey by 1 point, i had Ike ahead by one going into the last round and felt he needed a knockdown or ko to win , and he pulled it out, if you want to score it a 10-7 then he won by 2 points.... And even the harshest ODLH critics will tell you the Tito fight was much more controversial than the other ones and that should have been a convincing win, no way can anyone say QUartey or Sweet pea won convincing decisions... As for the Mosley fight well that came after all these fights, prior to this fight most considered Oscar the number 1 welter in the world, and had been at that weight for a couple years. I never said he was number one well in the 2000s.

    Considering Tszyu was stopped and beat up by Vince Phillips just a couple months after ODLh won a wide decision after defending against Gonzalez and beating Chavez before that... I think its safe to say Oscar was hands down the best JW during his short reign.

    You clearly are playing devils advocate if you bring up Miguel A Gonzalez at Lw a guy he beat shortly after at JW.. He did beat the other titlist RUELAS in a blowout.

    I notice u didnt deny that he was the number 1 Jm?

    As I said I think he is a great. I just have a thing about the best fighting each other.

    Gonzalez at jw ends a lot for his p4p standing, but nothing for his lightweight standing.

    He never faced randal either at jw.

    As I said before I at them weights I mentioned, them fights would have made him champ of the weight.

    As an aside, going off the thread title, where do you put hoya in the atg list?

    He fought more elite guys that anyone in recent memory..Would be impossible for him to have fought everyone you mentioned, as he was usually tied up in super fights himself... If he would have fought the guys you mentioned he would have been accused of ducking others..

    I rate him as high as top 25 or no lower than top 30.

    it's a little high for me but i could see it justified if you are counting his first fight with tito and second with mosley as straight up wins

    As a boxer top 50 at worst. He has very good wins over John John Molina, Rafael Ruelas, Genaro Hernandez, Pernell Whitaker and Ike Quartey. The Whitaker fight was closer than the scores suguest and it is reasonable to think that Whitaker won the fight. Also while Whitaker was no longer at his best. He was still very good. He has losses that hurt as well.
    As a boxing personlity I would say top 10.

    i personally think espn was pretty good with 49. i'd rate him in the low 40s but he's ridiculously hard to place

    You're right and this is the dilemma isn't it, multi weight superfights or cleaning out the division against less prestigious opponents?

    Personally I prefer a fighter to defeat atleast the top contender and become champ at the weight, in the era of alphabet titles I can see how this is no longer other people's preference.

    I see him about the same, he wasn't lineal champ in many divisions but his resume is brilliant and the amount of contenders he fought in a variety of divisions is amazing. He arguably fought the best two middleweights around as well. Impressive stuff.
