One of my favorite fighters of all time. Reflexes like a cat. Imagine if he had some pop on his punches.Top 20 of all time.
atsch Spoken like a person who has never seen a prime Sweet Pea fight in his life. The man threw 1000 punches in fights.:deal
Please leave this thread, we know your opinions on Whitaker and fighters who actually have skill, we don't care. You prefer the Gatti's, Margo's, Ward's, and Baldomir's of the world, others prefer fighters that are actually elite.
i'm saying that everything about the fight other than the fight itself was rigged... pea was winning that title if he went the full 12... and i agree, he won fair and square but it was close... and honestly, he looked terrible in that fight
Exactly Ram has been disqualified he doesn't appreciate the sweet science and bashes fighters who employ it. I bet he's still mad that Pea clowned and schooled his hero JCC.:yep
and here come the *****-hurt Pea huggers. All I said was he was top 25, pretty good ranking so I aint blindly hating on the dude. . . I also said his lack of offense prevented him from being higher - when you look at most other ATG's - they have more offense, thats pretty clear. Besides Willy Pep, I think Pea was probably the most defensive minded boxer on the all time list. Are you guys saying his win over Hurtado wasnt impressive? Are you saying he went for the stoppage against Tito, Chavez, DLH or Nelson?
Physically he did, what with his belly and all, but the fact that he was able to tame a much bigger, stronger beat like Vasquez(who beat Winky up and down the ring, and Norris wanted no part of) like he did despite his obvious disadvantages is very impressive.
Going for a stoppage doesn't make you impressive, as is shown repeatedly with Margarito's fights where he looks like an unskilled bum, yet he always goes for stoppages. Your definition of boxing differs greatly with the majority here. If you don't like Whitaker(which we all KNOW you don't) then simply stop commentin about him with the same nonsense over and over. No offense, explain how he threw over 100 punches per round in his prime and was known for being one of the best counter-punchers with the best jab in the history of the LW division.
I guess going for the stoppage and actualy trying to hurt our opponant is overated in the sport of boxing?!?!?:nut I already said he was top 25 ATG, why are you guys so damn sensative? Cause I point out that he lacked offense? Dont blame the messenger for stating the truth.
Both Chavez and Nelson were fighting above their prime weight, so no I was not as impressed as you were by those wins. HIs victories over McGirt were solid but not really impressive iMO since I was never quite sold on Mcgirt! Never saw whitaker/Vazquez, so I can't comment on that one!
