I must admit i don't know much about the lighter weights but i have gained a interest on him. Seeing some of his highlights he was a very offensive fighter which is unusual as guys, often as dominant as him and on massive unbeaten streaks, are often more defensive(RJJ or PBF). Did he completly dominate his era, or did he seek weaker challenges and pad his resume? Or did he take on all challenges and was so good he beat them all? Also what was the minimumweight and lightfly era like then?

He completely dominated 105 and it's hard to say he was cherry-picking there; however, he waited until very late in his career to move up to 108, so the one huge fight that could have been made but never was made was with Michael Carbajal. Relatively, it was a good era for the little guys, keeping in mind that the talent pool will always be smaller at those weights and thus the mean level of competition usually isn't as high as it is around lightweight to light heavyweight.

As for being offensive, he was about as good of a textbook boxer as I can think of, and I'm pretty confident that if you blow him up in size, he would have been a dominant force in just about any weight class. Still, because he was in such a low weight class, his resume is somewhat lacking compared to a lot of others, which is why you usually see him in the 50 - 70 range on all-time lists. On a head to head basis, he's up there with the best of the last 30 years.

He is definitely top five when ranked with his fellow Mexican countrymen. I agree with everything Brickhaus said.

Ricardo Lopez is one of the guys you want to imitate if you want to start boxing.

Fantastic fighter who fought two great fights with "El Buffalo" Mendoza. He's definitely a top 100 all time.

Based on skills alone I would place Finito at the very top of that list.

He was cursed with a tiny frame and that(at least in part) prevented him from conquering more weight div.

He actually lost the first match with Alvarez, but got the nod.

it was a close one and i could see having Alvarez ahead but the fight was in mexico and they probably feared that a riot would happen if they had given it to Alvarez.
