Good post. Not agreed on all points, necessarily, but I agree with the theme of your post. Incredibly difficult to place him.
I have seen some of the most brilliant clips of Roy Jones against 3 hall of famers and one champ in Toney ,Hill ,Hopkins and Johnson ..Reggie Johnson ..So I don't see where he only show boats against bums ..But hey we can agree to disagree ..You clearly dont' like Jones antics I can understand either u love him or hate him .. And Hagler is one of my all time favorite fghters so its hard for me to rate anyone over him but that's just my opinion ..I still feel Jones though should be up there ..I have never seen a fighter that had as much speed and power with amazing foot work all in one . .I mean each of the greats had those intangibles but not to many had it all like Jones ..So his ranking can be debated but it wont be dismissed ..
Michael Spinks stands at 6'2 (closer to 6'3), and had concussive power in both hands at 175lbs, which is to say he hit harder than Tarver and Johnson...by quite a margin. He was a wonderful amateur, had good Boxing skills in addition to his awkward style in which he delivered 4-5 punch combination's from an assortment of angles. He also took Holmes best shots up at Heavyweight which would indicate to me that Spinks had a very capable chin. ...Spinks will land as a result of his awkwardness, it's inevitable, and I don't see Jones weathering those kind of shots.
roy jones is a proven drug cheat, why does no one talk about that? does this not affect the way he should be remembered and his legacy or do you like to brush this under the carpet?
Hey bud, that is not near as bad as I have seen him ranked by some... 80's is bull****, anything in the top 50 I will not contest with.:good
Yes 80's is ludacris,he wasnt a very skilled fighter, but his athletic ability is freakish, but his game relied on that hince the reason why he's not a good fighter past his prime.Late 40's to anywhere in the lower 60's is good for him,i do like him head to head against most fighters but its about what you proved during your era,and his competition just wasnt up to par,and he was a serial ducker, which was why he wasted away much of his prime, plus i dont like fighters with weak tickers,if your the best fight best, something he blaently avoided doing.
Again who did he avoid that propells him in the top 20 all time ?? Really who is that legend he ducked ?And what he did in his era the 90's was dominante ..What more did he have to do ??
True he had no SRL,Hearn's,Hagler,Duran's,Benitez's but the Hopkins fight could have happened, and their were a bunch of other young fighters he could have fought that wernt fulltime fireman or policeman like he did.The Calzaghe fight could have happend although i dont think very highly of him it would'nt have hurt for Jones to clean him up which he could have done and we would'nt have to hear about Calzaghe being overrated like he is now,yet he fights both of these when he could'nt fight at all, this all counts against him.
