Some saying on this very forum (and others) saying hes one of the best, others say hes overrated, others say he didnt fight good comp. he has a glass jaw etc etc. well i cant make a balanced conclusion judging all the factors properly, i admire him as a fighter definetly got skill. im not really sure where he ranks overall for me though. where does he rank p4p at the end of the day for you guys?

RJJ is definitely one of the best of modern times. He'd have to be in most people's top 15.

Roy Jones is better than almost every fighter I have ever seen from any era. He is no less than top 10 and as high as top 5

He takes a lot of flak for his losses most of which come at the end of his career. You would think Roy Jones Jr. is the first and only boxer to stay in the sport for too long.
In terms of his Talent/skills/ability goes there few if any better than him.
In terms of accomplishments he has one championships at middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight.
    At
super middleweight and light heavyweight. I would not pick anyone to beat him. Ezzard Charles at 175 comes nearest to beating him.
Fights with Steve Collins, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Dariusz Michalczewski would give a more conclusive answer to the question.
As it stands in terms of opponents he has a good resume but it could be better.
Jones is very tricky for me to rank. I do my best not to hold the results of boxers who are clearly past their primes against them, but a prime Jones did not fight Steve Collins, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Dariusz Michalczewski. His fault or their fault. You still have to hold that against him and them as well.
There are times where I rank him as high as #5. Some times I question this ranking. I think he should be in or near the top 10. I know that might sound high to a lot of you.
When you consider the positives vs. the negativas. I think the positives come out on top.

If he'd gotten out after Ruiz, many would be rating him at the top of the heap. The nature of his post Ruiz defeats are devastating. Losing past prime is one thing, getting blasted by singular shots more than once is something else. As I was no longer following boxing as I once had by the time he came along, I'll leave it to others to assess a ranking for him.

i do wonder what the old timers on here think of him the guys that saw fighters like lamotta, chalres, moore etc.

thats not to say im not interested in everyone else's thoughts on here... just that those that saw the best of the best live, their thoughts on jones would be interesting seeing as they can compare to the fighters that jones probly idiolized.

this is where I have him. He did not fight enough top guys or have the heart of a true great when it came to fighting everyone. Something was lacking.

I would have him a definate top 15 , he probably gets pushed down to mid 40s if you include P4P kings we have never seen fotage of though.

I have never done a list to say for sure... In terms of what he accomplished i would estimate around 30, I can name about 20 fighters off the top of my head that accomplished more, so there would probably be more than I could throw down right now...

Considering talent though and H2H ability? The best I have ever seen footage of. I would have loved to see him in against more elite fighters, at his best i would have picked him over all of them in his era... Though I try not to get too carried away with who he didn't fight, because he did defeat two of the other best fighters of the era around his weight very convincingly.

:deal This says it for me. He went down imo but i cant be too harsh on him as he was past his prime. Id still put him in my all time top 20 though. If he had retired right after Ruiz i would have him near the very top like Duodenum said.
