So a really bad cut and a not too good performance from Thaxton i last nights fight. The fight played out the way everyone thought it would and it was doubtful whether Thaxton could have managed a win even if the cut had not appeared, he needed a big punch and a KO. Romanov in the end was a different class and will go onto better things hopefully but what of our British champion. He is not the first Brit to lose a Euro belt tilt and I am sure he will want to fight on and maybe get the Lonsdale belt to keep. Lee Meager has been talked about as a future opponent and a rematch. I like the sound of that fight but also I think Amir Khan may now give Thaxton a shot at his Commenwealth belt. Although Amir Khan is more likely to go to the states and fight a few American journey men he could do little worse than giving us Brits a chamnce of seeing him fight old boy Thaxton before the next stage in Khans amazing career.
Exactly, he has had a long, hard career and he has always given his all. After last nights performance i wouldnt like to see him in with Khan. Take a homecoming gimme fight and as said above retire.
Thaxton winning would have helped Khan because he got pick up two belts in one fight. Khan should still fight Thaxton and Romanov. Thaxton is still the British champ. I'd love to see Khan make it big this year and fight every two or three months. Thaxton, Romanov then a title shot in December!
Wouldn't break the record if he went for the title in December, though; has to win the title by early July. If he isn't going to break the record...yeah...he can take his time going through all the belts all the way to a title shot.
If he wins a vacant WBO title to me that wont count as breaking the record regardless of when the fight is.
Why? I don't understand your fixation against the three letters on that belt... Isn't Casamayor not still a worthy titleholder?:huh
I only mentioned that belt because thats the one he is most likely to win. If he wins a vacant anything I wont be happy with it being counted as breaking the record. The chances are though if he did fight for a vacant WBO as opposed to any of the big three the opposition would be weakest. Casamayor picked up the interim WBO by chance, it's not like he actively sought it plus he was a name before winning it.
Who's to say that will happen? I cant see Warren putting Khan in with Casa based on his last performance. This whole record breaking thing is spurious anyway. Naz won the WBO from Steve Robinson so did that really make him the youngest world champ?
I didn't say I didn't like Naz. I'm just saying should we be counting winning a title from Steve Robinson as being for the World title? Of course he went on to dominate but at that point you could hardly say he was a real world champion could you? Whilst we're on the subject of Naz I was talking about him the other day & saying we need someone like him again. Sure he was arrogant but he was prepared to fight anyone & didnt mind taking a few to please the crowd.
I can't stand the arrogant little ***** but I think he in beating Robinson he definitely deserved to be called World Champion, even though Robinson was far from the best in the division. We could argue about this forever, or at least until there is only one championship belt (which there should be).
The WBO were a joke back then which is why I have a problem recognising the belt now because people may start retrospectively recognising their joke "champions" as real world champions. As for Naz, he was an entertainer & wasn't afraid to fight anyone. We need more like him.
