Where does the current UK boxing scene rank compared to other era's in history

70's-00's for a start, son!

Give me those over the lot you named. Great list, but so much unproved or undeserving people there, IMO.

 

True. But we had guys DOMINATING. NOBODY is doing that now.

Hell, even the domestic side of things is till up for grabs, mostly.

Khan/Brook
Quigg/Frampton
SMW and LW are all up for grabs as well.

We've got some quality, but tons of quantity.

 

Greater depth in every divisions that any or many other era's, however there is a lack of the big star names that other era's have had.

 

It's a good era, we have some really skilled boxers - I honestly think James DeGale is the goods and will go onto do great things, his loss to GG (which I thought he won) has really proved to be a good thing in my opinion. Also a big fan of McDonnell, can't wait for his second fight with Tomoki Kameda, what a great s****. I'm only a recent boxing fan so it's hard for me to compare with previous eras, but I do honestly believe that British boxing and European boxing in general is doing well, a lot of Russian, and Ukrainian fighters are on the rise, while the US is really on the slide - and this will continue, the U.S amateur scene is particularly bleak! Sorry for going a bit off topic, lol

 

Frampton, brook, McDonnell, Selby, and degale all have legit titles. You say give u the other lads you named any day. But that's a bit unfair as they have all finished there careers. All these guys I named could go on to do great things to. They have all only won their world titles in the last year or so. Give them a chance. Frampton , brook, degale and Selby all have bags of talent. And McDonnell in my opinion is not as talented, but he is the most proven out of any of them. He exceeds the odds every time. Give these lads a chance.

 

If I'm not mistaken though he beat the wbo champ kameda but the belt was not on the line. And he also won the vacant IBF title in beating Julio ceja but was stripped of this. So McDonnell is only the wba regular champion in name. But IMO he is a real champion. And should actually be a unified champion making him a top dog in the division

 

That's due to the fights not being on BBC or ITV

Boxing a specialist sport now rather than one where our biggest names are household personalities as well as boxers

Of the current list of top fighters how many would the public recognise in the street if they walked by?

Whereas everyone knew McGuigan, Eubank etc
