Paul Malignaggi seems to have settled into a backwater eddy for the time being. He missed his chance with Hatton and Witter/Harris are tied up. That mudslinging with Chavez Jr. didn't amount to anything. Who do you see him fighting next, Torres? I want to see Paulie fight again soon!!!
D-Hops his mandatory, and their been feuding a bit also, so I won't be surprised to see that fight materialize soon... if not next.
That's who I began thinking of when you said I was thinking of the wrong Magic Man. On a side note, why the hell has Paulie taken Tarver's nickname. Of ALL the people he could choose, he chose to copy TARVER? :scaredas:
I wasn't aware that Paulie had officially moved up to 147. Isn't that where D-Hop is? Yes, Tarver should definately relinquish the nickname now.
I'm pretty sure he's 140. Just fought Forbes, and lost I thought, but was given the decision. The fight before that was an IBF 140 eliminator, or perhaps no. 2 fight (as N'dou was no. 1).
The reason I ask is that I just checked Boxrec and saw him listed as #4 in the welterweight division. You are right about his last fights being at 140 though.
Ahh okay I know why. Boxrec's rankings are based on a computer system. As he weighed 141 in his last fight, according to a computer ranking system, he must be ranked ABOVE 140, meaning 147. He still is at 140 though. The fight he weighed 141 was just a stay busy fight, probably while he waits for Paulie. I actually used to (still do) think he was a good little fighter. Although I didn't like his fight against Forbes, and thought he lost.
Ah, that makes it clear. Thanks I wonder if Paulie's jab will be effective against someone as tall as D-Hops.
D-hop is just making noise. He is NOT his mandatory. His Mandatory is in fact Herman Ngoudjo, so that is likely to be his next opponent because none of that Chavez or Casamayor talk ever came to fruition. Then- there is the rematch clause against N'dou which im sure paulie will put off as long as possible because that fight will put no asses in any seats. So- Torres may be down the line... but I think that he will a)have to fight holt again (and prolly lose) and then b)the timing may be off for them to square off because Malignaggi wants to fight soon and a rematch with Torres-holt may take a few months. Long story short...ish Herman Ngoudjo being the mandatory is probably his next move. A nice lateral move for Malignaggi would be a slaughtering of Gavin Rees to double up the belts, but I think that someone will beat Malignaggi to Rees.
Your right about Ngoudjo being no. 1. I knew N'Dou was no. 1 at the time D-Hop fought his supposed eliminator, so it musta been for the no. 2 spot... Nonetheless, Ngoudjo and D-Hop would be two good fights for Paulie to have at this stage IMO, now that he's just won his world title. One after the other, even. Their decent fighters, not neccessarily top ten, but certainly close... I think Salita (sp?) is getting to Rees first... Lucky him.
