Where does this idea come from that Fury is such an intelligent, 'High IQ' fighter?

What does that even mean?

What is so intelligent about his style? He's big and ackward, which makes him tough to fight, yes...

But i've never found him to be particularly well at cutting off the ring, his defense is nothing special, he doesn't have the ability to time his opponents like a Mayweather or B-Hop, ....
for such a big powerful guy he can rarely put his punches together enough to end a fight, and he spends entirely too much time showboating rather than engaging.

What exactly am I missing here?

No, Wlad fought timid because for the first time in his life he was the smaller man in the ring

 

He is very, very good at calculating exactly how much offensive work he has to do in order to win each round. He doesn't win many rounds convincingly but doesn't lose rounds convincingly, either, and he has been able to pace himself just enough to maintain movement for 12 rounds. This strategy obviously backfired to an extent against Wilder, because while most had him winning he didn't create sufficient separation and left himself vulnerable to the draw after the two knockdowns.

This particular trait doesn't make him the most inspiring HW, but it has served him well. When you think about it, most long-standing and unified champs are very good at mitigating risk. Wladimir and Lennox certainly knew how to do it, as did Ali and as did Holmes. You generally won't have a long reign trading at heavy or relying too much on KOs, which is why the Wilder/Joshua era has been so interesting. They have been exceptions, although Joshua took a more traditional, risk-averse approach in Ruiz II. It's less exciting but is likely to serve him well.

I've only heard people say Fury is very athletic for a woman of her size... Never heard nothing about high ring IQ.

 

Be looking for your posts when Fury takes care of Wilder,no-one has stopped Fury as a Pro he always got up.
I can't see Wilder doing this in the 2nd fight.

The only way Wilder stops Fury if that cut opens up again & the ref say that's enough.

You gotta have high ring iq to avoid getting kod by a guy as big, explosive, powerful as wilder for 12 rounds.

I don’t think it was that. Wlad is a technically correct fighter so the unorthodox movement and feinting of Fury had him constantly resetting.

For Fury to befuddle Wlad like that is skillful.

I still see it as a non fight though. Nothing actually happened in the whole bout.

He knows how to maximize his strengths very well and has a good understanding of boxing. Awkward but he moves his feet well, controls distance and is hard to hit flush. I’m amazed by his skills and ring IQ. He moves better than any big man I have ever seen. When he’s focused, he’s a great (albeit boring) boxer. When he clowns, he takes huge risks but I guess that makes the fights more exciting. If he had Klitchkos discipline, he’d be unbeatable.
