Where does this misconception come from that Cotto has never called Floyd out?

I remember around 2007 Cotto made it very clear that he wanted to fight Mayweather even insulting Floyd on some occasion's Here are some interviews Cotto did around that time.

Posiblemente usemos a Henry Bruseles e Irving García.

This is for all the Floyd fanboys...who's ducking who? In a rare moment, Cotto decides to let the world know how he feels about PBF ducking a possible match between the 2.

    Cotto: "Mayweather Always Makes Excuses"

WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25KOs) is not going to wait around for his WBC counterpart, Floyd Mayweather Jr (39-0, 25KOs), to make a decision as to whether or not he will fight him. Cotto says he is tired of hearing excuses on why Mayweather won't take the fight.

"He always runs [from me], makes excuses on why he shouldn’t fight Miguel Cotto. I'm here for the big names. If he doesn't want to fight me than I can do something else. I don't know," Cotto said.

A lot of opponents have worked on the perfect strategy to beat Mayweather, but Cotto is confident he got the goods to pull of the upset.

"To beat Maywetaher, you have to put pressure on him, cut off the ring and be ready to throw a lot of punches, real punches - for all twelve rounds," Cotto said.

Miguel Cotto: "That's [something] he [Mayweather] has done his whole career," Cotto said. "He runs from the really good boxers and chases other things. I don't know how people in boxing support him as being first in the pound-for-pound [rankings]."

Mayweather, who's 31, argues that a fight with Cotto isn't worth his time right now. He believes Cotto needs to build himself into a pay-per-view attraction and then step forward for a lucrative matchup.

"I'm only going by credentials," Mayweather said. "Now I pick and chose who I want to fight. He [Cotto] is with Bob Arum; he has a boss. Once he goes out and becomes an entrepreneur and makes it worth my while, we can talk."

    Cotto: "Mayweather, Stop Making Excuses"

At his training camp in Puerto Rico, WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25KOs) issued a challenge to Floyd Mayweather Jr (39-0, 25KOs), the WBC titleholder. Speaking with Primera Hora, Cotto told Mayweather to stop making excuses and to give the boxing fans the fight they want most.

"When he decides to fight, he knows that we are ready, that Miguel Cotto is here. He has to stop making excuses and looking for other fights. He knows this is the fight that people want to see," Cotto said.

Wow he mentioned him in some Puerto Rican, non-english speaking, newspaper. On HBO, where Floyd could actually see or would DEFINITELY hear about it, he sure as **** kept his mouth shut.

Didn't Floyd say "I'm not gonna let another fighter end my career" when asked about fighting Cotto in the post fight interview of the Hatton fight?

I’m not going to let boxing retire me, I will retire from boxing, when asked by Larry Merchant on HBO after the Hatton win if he will fight Cotto.

Leonard Ellerbe said to the New York Post: “I think Cotto is a good fighter who’s definitely improving. His promotional company has done a good job in getting the right type of fights to increase his visibility. But he’s still not there yet. The numbers don’t lie. If nobody’s watching him as evidenced by the ratings, what makes him important? I’m not saying he’s a bad fighter. He’s a good fighter. But he’s obviously not on Floyd’s level because nobody’s watching.”
Ellerbe said. “When Floyd steps into the ring, it’s going to be about legacy and economics. He’s in control of what’s going on and if those two things aren’t happening, Floyd’s not going to be part of that.”

    Roger Mayweather interview..

Who do you believe would pose the most formidable threat to Floyd Mayweather?

“The guy who I figure would give Floyd the most…[long pause]…I’m looking…I’m looking at Cotto [pause]. Probably Cotto I guess. He’s pretty much one-handed but I think he’s a disciplined fighter and if there was a guy who would give Floyd a problem I think it would be Cotto more than any other guy.”

WBC welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25KOs) is not interested in a potential fight with WBA champ Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25KOs) of Puerto Rico, at least for now. In a recent interview with Franklin McNeil of the New Jersey Star-Ledger, Mayweather gave his thoughts on Cotto trying to lure him into a fight by revealing his strategy to win. Mayweather, as one can expect, does not agree with Cotto's fight plan. More important than that, he doesn't feel the fight makes any financial sense at the moment.

"I'm not going to disrespect Miguel Cotto. He's one of us; he's part of the family, the HBO family," Mayweather said. "As a businessman, I'm not going to put him down. That wouldn't be a smart thing to do. I want him to do well, keep winning and building his fan base. But the truth be told, he knows he can't beat me. He knows. Cotto's remedy to beat me is pressure, pressure, pressure. That's not the remedy to beat me."

Mayweather told McNeil that he's going to use 2008 to focus on his company, Mayweather Promotions, by staging boxing events and taking part in the music and television industry. Currently, Mayweather is overseeing the tour for popular R&B star Chris Brown, and he plans to work with Mary J. Blige on her 2008 concert tour. Mayweather's company is also in negotiations to produce two motion pictures, and a book deal is on the way.
