The most fickle fans in sport are Boxing fans, that is why hes been overrated, the proof is there in his comp to not put him in with atg's, strong champions of the past beat Wilder let alone ATG's
See them fellas from the 80's you mention George, its my opinion that Don King messed the majority of them up career and legacy wise, some could've blossomed in to fantastic fighters, better than they were..If your getting short changed at work or not paid, would you try ?? Id be ****, not arsed at all
just like i posted in a few topics before...wilder knocks out a stationary fighter with one punch and all of sudden he's in the all time great discussion. good job america.
Wilder is certainly ducking AJ but Fury didn`t land many more punches on Wilder than were landed on him and he did get caught a couple of times with shots that would have stopped most heavies by Wilder who floored him twice, Wlad could hardly touch Fury his active guard, ability to slip and reach simply make him hard to hit and hard to hit without being countered by his long arms, we simply never saw the more shorter armed greats of certain decades up against a guy with a 85 inch reach that constantly moves, even if Fury couldn`t beat any ATG`s he could have made them look bad by spoiling and exploiting his massive reach and height.
Granite chinned contenders like Mercer, Tua, Bert Cooper, Ibeabuchi and a whole host of similar guys would give Wilder fits. I'd favour relatively weak titleists such as Morrison, Wetherspoon, Bruno, McCall, Rahman and Berbick over Wilder or at least make it a 50/50 affair and then the likes of Mike Tyson, Lewis, Bowe, Holyfield, would likely destroy Wilder in humiliating fashion. Earlier titleists such as Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Holmes, Liston, and the like would all have difficulty with Wilders length and reach but, they have such vastly superior technique and ring IQ, I beleive ultimately, the majority of them would find a way to win. Then you have the current crop of heavyweights, many of whom I would give a reasonable chance at defeating Wilder. Prime Wlad and Vitali would likely have little trouble with Wilder and a prime David Haye would have been a shoot out. If Wilder defeats one of AJ, Fury, or Whyte then he can be considered perhaps for 15-20 but, even then it would be a stretch. He still has a long way to go to be considered anything approaching ATG status.
Mercer Tua and Ike I would make heavy favourites, and if Cooper lands the left hook its good night, id make him favourite before he become a journeyman
This reminds me of Wilder claiming he would've destroyed a prime Mike Tyson. Tyson was actually an aggressive counter puncher, and he was probably the most explosive heavyweight in history. He would've slipped Wilder's telegraphed right and smash him with a left hook counter. Wilder isn't going to survive a Tyson flurry after getting hurt by a counter judging by how off balance he is.
I actually think it would have been an awesome fight and I feel Wilder is better than Douglas was v an out of shape Mike.
