Other than Hatton, and Khan's ridiculous PPV efforts, where are the big fights on Sky these days? I know prize fighter is entertaining but it isn't the blockbuster we all getting really up for. Have Setanta got everything now?

It seems so. The last big American fight I remember them having was Mosley vs Mayorga last year.

    Taylor v Hopkins II
    Tarver v Jones Jnr
    Hopkins v Taylor
    Gatti v Mayweather
    Trinidad v Wright
    Morales vs Pacquiao
    Gatti v Leija

these were the fights the had from the states in 2006 on normal sky sports

    10 fights.
    Taylor v Ouma
    Wright v Quartey
    Mayweather v Baldomir
    Hopkins vs Tarver
    Barrera v Juarez II
    Barrera v Juarez

in 2007 they brought us half of that

    Taylor v Spinks
    De La Hoya v Mayweather
    Taylor v Pavlik
    Barrera v Marquez

    in 2008 they had

so yeh since setanta came along they have stopped going for any fight they can't out on PPV. basically i dont think boxing makes them much money.

Yeah, it's a shame. I got Sky for the football and boxing about 3 years ago and got used to seeing some big fights but they have dried up this year. we've just had a baby and I can't really justify forking out for Setanta just for the boxing, (let's face it, they're crap at everything else). They have some really good fights on there still but mainly at domestic level and without taking anything away from those guys there's no 'marquee fights' as Carl Froch would say.

    To be honest, I'm glad!

Setanta have the big ones, but sky are still showing domestic shows. Makes for good coverage and sky seemed to have stayed pretty consistent with their domestic coverage.

ITV have had a handful of fights over the last twelve months (including ITV3+4) so hopefully they may start bringing us a few more shows.

That's a great point. I'd never looked at as being beneficial to the sport in terms of wider coverage, (just me being selfish). Now if you could use your powers of persuasion to convince my wife that Setanta is a good idea we're golden.

    :rofl

    Try the following;

"Listen babe, we dont want another kid so soon after the last one. But you're so attractive to me that I just want to make love to you all the time. And it's usually between the hours of 11pm to 5am that I feel most attracted to you. I could really do with something that could keep me entertained in this time frame...

...You know, Setanta show a lot of fights at these hours. And Setanta is cheaper than another child right?"

Let me know how it goes...

setanta doesnt go on the same bill as sky. if you do it through a seperate account your missed will never no. dont have double cheese on your whopper and you will have 12.99 a mounth extra no problem.

tell the misses they gave you setanta for free because of some technical problem.

i dont think its a case of setanta getting all the fights, its more sky dont want to show these fights anymore

there are plenty of fights out there for sky to purchase that setanta dont have, like this weekend angulo, 28th jmm diaz

I'm loving the marriage counselling. Who knew Eastside would be this wide ranging? I might see if I can get it as Xmas/B'day/father's day rolled into one. Or I could just pull my finger out at work and earn more money and then it wouldn't be an issue. No more forum for me though.

Does anyone know how much it costs for a British broadcaster to buy the live rights to a decent US (say HBO level) bill?

It is a surprise to me that we don't get everything one way or another. The UK is a big boxing market and I'd expect the US promoters to sell to British TV every time. Any extra cash made on a promotion in this way is all incremental and you'd expect the market to work efficiently enough that we get everything.

There are enough sports channels after all.

The answer to the question though is that Setanta's aggression has made Sky all but throw the towel in for US bills bar superfights which can by PPV'd.

nobody knows the exact amount, but we do know that unless a fight is PPV, boxing cards either fale to make the channel a profit from subscriptions and advertising, or does not make as much profit as other sports.
