There aren't any boxers that I know of that are of my ethnicity, so I've never had the issue of nationalistic pride when it came to boxing. That said, it's really a shame that so many people on this board, and most boxing forums in general, aren't BOXING fans. They're just fanatics about boxers who happen to be the same nationality as them. A bunch of English fans who insist Hatton has never lost a round, was screwed by the ref against Floyd but wasn't helped by the ref vs Lazcano, one-sided street type mentality. A bunch of Hispanic fans who swear up and down that Marquez won every round against Pacquiao, including the first round of their first fight. A punch of Filipinos who think Manny has zero unfinished business with Marquez, and beat him definitively both times. And a bunch of Americans who discount European fighters based solely on the fact that haven't been on HBO or Showtime, believing in some sort of mythical idea that the American is obviously superior because the Euro has a hard to pronounce name.

It's just stupid, and kind of a shame. Seeing Nate Campbell beat up Juan Diaz, win a clear decision, and when the scores were read and Nate was declared the winner, all the fans in Cancun boo him out of the building. Not because they hated that someone beat the Mexican fighter, but because in the blind pride, they actually believed their boy won the fight. Because most of them don't understand jack **** about boxing. They just cheer for whoever shares their heritage and trick themselves into thinking he's winning every second of every round, based on his skin color or accent.

In this age of boxing not being on the main stage of sports, having removed itself from the casual fan lexicon and solely beamed onto PPV for big fights, it seems like the actual boxing enthusiast is a dying breed. Maybe I'm lucky, being that I don't have to rely on just my heritage to decide my favorite fighters, I have a group of favorites than include Bernard Hopkins, Pacquiao, Mosely, Cotto and Pavlik.

Is there anyone else out there who likes more than the fighters that happen to share their heritage? I think supporting your favorite fighters is what it's all about, but the blind loyalty and hater mentality to anyone that might get over on one of your favorites is killing this place. Let me hear you, this place SERIOUSLY needs some unbiased boxing discussion!!!

    Nationality and boxing go together.
    It's pride.
    Deal with it.

it's a lot of talking ****, online personas.

Look, I am a die hard Yankee fan, but I certainly don't go up singing the praises of the Red Sox online. But find me in a bar with a Red Sox fan and we will both acknowledge our strengths and weaknesses and certain admirations for players on opposite teams.

It doesn't always happen on a message board.

But there are plenty of objective posters to be found if you look hard enough through the bull****. And plenty of quality boxing talk. Rivalry makes sport go round.

Alot of Boxers are proud of their backgrounds and nationalties which does tend to get alot of support from fellow people from the boxers country.

I'm fairly certain one can be proud without being stupid. It might not always happen, hell, it might not happen often, but it does happen. Kind of like walking while chewing bubble gum. It might take some getting used to, but it's possible.

dude i don't care if people cheer, boo, or just get pissed as long as they keep this sport alive. boxing is full of sanctioning bodies that just suck up fighters money and screw over real champions. promoters who promote us away from the best fights and you want to start a riot over fans that love there countries? when all those brits came to watch ricky fight floyd i thought that was beautiful. didn't you? give your head a shake man.

That **** pisses me off too. But i got used to it. You should too, because it wont`go away.

In fact, pure boxing fans, who follow the sport and analize fighters and fights objectivelly, are the minority.

The good news is that this forum is one of the few places in which you will find intelligent and objective boxing fans. Just wait and see. Don`t leave the board.... They´ll pop out at any minute.

This isn't anything new. It never HAS been new. Boxing is like the olympics...nationalistic (and racial) pride are carried out by millions through the fighters.

This has always been the way boxing is. It's just a lot easier to see now (like most things) because of the internet.

Thnk for the introduction my friend here I am :D

But seriously, there are some good poster here, and the truth is even some of them are biased towards certain fighters, but it's all just about filtering the good posts and trying not to pay attention to the dumb ones. There is still hope :good

In this world sports always involves nationalities esp. in boxing...things such as the olympics or world baseball classic wouldn't exist if that wasn't the case... I clearly understand what your saying how some fans become blind when it involves their fighters, but thats a big part of boxing... many of these fighters that we become to praise and adore, begin their career fighting with their own countrymen... thats when fans adopt their favorite and have their full support to represent them in the world... its not easy seeing someone you support from day one lose at the end of the day, and thats when sometimes we become blind... its like an instict or something inside of you even when you know your fighter has less abilities than his opponent... you just cheer for him... I myself get caught sometimes, but at the end of the day I could admit whos the better man... maybe one day you would understand:good

    Whats your ethnicity?

But i agree, everyone here should give opinions on a neutral perspective. That way most discussions can have a point. Thats boxing though. BEST SPORT IN THE WORLD!

I agree that many posters here seem to favor a nationality or race instead of the fighter themselves but to be honest boxing is much more fun to watch when a boxer from your country kick the living **** out of one you don't like. Plus it gets casual fans to watch which is always ok with me.

I don't believe national pride and being able to be objective are mutually exclusive.

I do follow all the british fighters and want them to win but that doesn't stand in the way of me analysing fights, I never gave Hatton a chance vs floyd and i make froch and haye underdogs in their up coming fights.

Like some of the guys said, there are a lot of idiots on here who are blind haters or fan boys but just ignore that ****, there are some damn fine and fair posters here too.

Nationalism is always going to be a part of sports that are practiced around the world competitively. There's nothing wrong with rooting a little harder for the guy thatcomes from your country, and as long as one follows the sport and roots for their favorite fighters, they are boxing fans.
