For those saying Americans suck now, why do we still have so many great lighter weights and why are we still near the top in almost every other sporting event/olympic event in the world?

    Now THAT is bull****!

The NFL only grew a bit later than television. Sure it existed prior but it didn't gain any sort of noterity until about the 1960s because of television. Prior to television boxing was HUGE on radio broadcasts.

Take a class in sports history sometime. You could learn alot!

The Heavyweight division as a whole sucks, Sam Peter is one of the few Heavyweights that make the sad the division worth watching.

I mean is it sooo depressing lets go and digest this...with the economy being what it is and having all of these people losing there homes and such would it be to hard pressed to have some the people in this industry with some money open a gym in major & little back towns to present true fundamental boxing to these kids? I mean the same could be said about baseball and the african american decline in interest in the sport (in the USA), that is more of a no traditional father figure at home or finances, but I digress... boxing's time to revitalize itself from the ashes is now so in ten years we will see the greatness of times passed and the money will far surpass that of any pro nfl team which is only popular in the states might I add:amen

The HW division is actually pretty good nowadays, anyway.

Wlad is a big, tall fighter with one of the hardest rights ever and a long jab. Then you have unbeaten Povetkin, an olympic gold medalist who has beaten a string of contenders right off the bat, Chagaev is an unbeaten fighter with solid well rounded skills and no major weaknesses, Valuev is the most skilled giant ever with amazing stamina and workrate for someone 7 feet tall. Peter is over rated but still has good power and is tough, Iggy is a spoiler who can beat many bigger HWs, Virchis only lost to Chageav and hits HARD. Fast Eddie Chambers is ok as well but needs to lose weight before he can become an elite fighter. I think Arreola is over rated and needs to iron out his technique but he is undefeated and brings toughness and solid power to every fight

Throw in Haye, who even though he hasn't proven himself at HW he was the undisputed champion from one weight down and brings speed to the table.

I agree 100% and that was also a great observation that if soo many guys can not make it to the league than why not get your head bashed in fighting I will tell you why cause this is not a sport that one can just waltz into at any age! the guys who fight into there late 30's have been fighting since they were little kids...you almost have to be bread for this. you gotta have a different mind set to step in front of someone and take a shot for 3 minutes at a time for 12 rounds! :nono

No doubt about it. I don't care if I make 1/5th of what the best boxer in the world makes. Hell I don't even care about it now when I make significantly less than that. All I care about in the end is being happy and healthy. And I'm sure lots of other people feel the same way. Boxing is a rough, rough business.
