I am still scratching my head over his loss to Povetkin. I thought he was easily outboxing Povetkin and was ahead on points. Then, he just seemed to stop punching. It made no sense!!!! Anyways, I spoke with him briefly at the Meza-Clay vs Aiken match in February and he seemed like he was an ok guy. I wish him the best and if anyone hears anything, let me know.
What a bust ... I think he has chin issues ... Povetkin isn't even a big puncher by HW standards and Chambers seemed to be scared to exchange with him. He had a big mouse under Povetkins eye and didn't even capitolize .... I don't like seeing over weight cruiserweights trying to compete at HW ... I think thats killing the division. If Chambers took his conditioning seriously ... he probably would be a nice size cruiser or light heavyweight - he's not strong at HW and is really wasting time of HW fans and his opponents.
Chambers should lose that 20 pounds of fat around his waist and move down to Cruiserweight he is not a Heavyweight.
Maybe he'll pull a Chris Byrd after he really gets his ass kicked - and then move down to his natural weight. I'm looking forward to seeing what Byrd looks like with all the fat gone.
Chambers should be a LHW with Byrd, RJJ, Dawson, Johnson and the other guys. Its a damn shame he doesn't care about his weight and have enough discipline to do it.
Fighters like Chambers have killed the HW division ... its so many non HW's in the division that its caused alot of b/s fights. Along w/ guys who don't take their conditioning seriously and come in the ring any kinda way ...
Chambers is still young, and it wasnt like he was pummeled against Povetkin. In facthe was kicking Povertkins ass before Povetkin finally starting to effectively put on pressure. He still has a bright future, would like to see him in a rebound fight, against a Danny Williams, AUdley Harrison type fighter.
Yeah he has some nice eye catching flurries but was inconsistant with his attack. He looks good in short spurts.
I think if Chambers hopes to continue at heavyweight, he had better be prepared to have next to no fan support. If there is one thing that turns heavyweight fans off on a fighter its knowing, ahead of time, that the fighter won't win by knockout. Byrd's lack of power at heavyweight is testament to this. Heavyweight fans want to see, first and foremost, POWER on display, and Chambers does not have any to speak of. I also agree that these boring and feather fisted fighters and their inability to excite the KO hungry fans, hurt the division.
He's scheduled to fight Raphael Butler on June 20: http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=34277&cat=boxer Butler is fighting this weekend (April 26) as well.
