I tend to agree. He was a poor man's Tommy Morrison white hype. Mesi went life and death with Monte Barret and his career was essentially destroyed by Jirov. So yea, the guy "retired" undefeated but when he "stepped up", and tbh it wasn't that much of a "step up" against Monte Barrett he had all sorts of problems and then came the Jirov disaster.
him taking a job he campaigned against shows a lack of principle. is he that desperate for a job? as a fighter he was no bum, he competed well with other lower contenders (TOS, barrett, and jirov). but he was limited and never would've got a belt imo unless he got the right circumstances (maybe in w/ maskaev in the peter fight or in with ruiz with a ref that wouldn't allow johnny his usual tactics). a tough big hitter like arreola, who has his own serious limitations, would've likely really hurt the guy. either klit would've killed him even though he did fairly well for his modest size and ability, he came across as a politician imo and it looks like he's committed to that path.
