anyone have any idea what happened to joe mesi? any rumors about who hes fighting next or why hes been out so long? Last I heard, he won his last fight and looked pretty good doing so
He's looked better lately in his comeback, but it's time to step it up against a next level opponent, someone like a Robert Hawkins or Taurus Sykes. His last fight was a first round ko of not-so-good Shannon Miller. I think Mesi has a chance to still make some $ IF he can get re-instated in NY state. At 34, he better hope it happens soon.
Joe Mesi is down at the pizzeria with James Toney and Sam Peter. That is how they all get so well conditioned.
I agree, Mesi looked and performed well in his Miller blowout. I think he probably gained enough confidence from that to fight a known name, now. Hopefully. Maybe that is what is taking so long, maybe he's trying to put a fight together with a name, now. Speaking of Robert Hawkins, the guy is ON FIRE, right now after beating the upcoming prospect Guinn. LOL SO maybe Mesi ought not to consider tangling with Hawkins, just yet.
Mesi's career is done, he has and never will be the same after the Brain bleeds he sustained from the Jirov fight almost 4 years ago:verysad he can't get a license in Nevada or New York the 2 biggest money making states, just retire and call it a day..
I was Mesi fan years ago, but the delays in his carreer are too long. His father's stuberness in refusing to go along with boxing establishment has gone from honorable to self-destrutive. I know it is ****ed up, but he is in losing situation, and should give a little. Afterwards, say what shitheads they are. His sons trianers are no help either.
Millions, maybe billions, could be made by a Dominich Guinn-Briggs match up. Sell it on DVD's as a sleep aid, and you make a fortune.
:huh His last fight was just two-and-a-half months ago. I wouldn't say that qualifies as having been out "so long" by modern standards. It was a one-round blow-out over a previously-fairly-durable-seeming journeyman in Shannon Miller. He's presently on an impressive run of three consecutive first-round knockouts. I heard after the match that his camp was negotiating for him to fight either Brian Minto or Roman Greenberg next, and that they were hoping to have the fight happen before the end of the year, but that obviously didn't work out.
Because that would be another useless sideways step. Zumbrun is no better than Shannon Miller or even George Limberger, for that matter. I don't think Mesi is completely done yet, and it does seem the docs have cleared him, but he needs to step up his competition. Someone mentioned Minto, that would be a good matchup.
