This kid was being billed by ESPN2 as the 'best prospect in boxing.' I never bought it because he looked like a basic, young pressure fighter to me who relied primarily on his left hook to the body and the head (similar to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr), but I was interested in seeing how his career progressed. But during the fight with Troy Browning, he looked like Oliver McCall-lite, following Browning around the ring, looking as though he really didn't want to be there. When he threw punches and pressured him, he would win the rounds. Just didn't do this on a consistent basis and basically let Browning win the fight without much resistance. Is this kid finished or is he just taking a break from boxing?
I was wondering the exact same thing. The last time I saw him was on ESPN2 Fight Night's when he lost to a 40 year old guy I think. He's a good fighter, but I too agree that ESPN was hyping this guy up way too much.
I heard the same thing about being promoted by Duran. Maybe with a long rest he can come back a rejuvinated fighter. I know he is very young, but all that punishment with all that training and fighting as much as he did could take a toll.
I read somewhere that Browning was a UNDER DOG bigtime in this fight Garcia put a bunch of money on him and threw the fight. His winning from the bet was way more than his purse. But who knows if thats true.
