Anybody know if he is planning on fighting in 2010? I havent heard of any injuries?

I guess Juan Carlos Gomez got his big paycheque and has retired as well?

Gomez is coming back in March according to boxrec. There was word about Chagaev fighting Kali Meehan for an super interim title in recess, but nothing came of it.

I would be surprised to see Chagaev fight again for a while. He had all sorts of injuries and illnesses, he can't fight outside Germany because he has Hepatitis. Since he beat Valuev he hasn't fought often and looked poor when he did. I don't think his heart was in boxing. Same with Sultan Ibragimov.

Only because their first fight ended in a technical draw because Chagaev got cut, and Calloway was ranked at the time of the 2nd fight.

Learn your boxing. Chagaev was close to knocking out Calloway in the first fight. Suddenly the fight was stopped for a cut. Than Chagaev fought Calloway again and let me tell you, it would not surprise me if Calloway is still sitting on that stool in the centre of the ring without getting up.

At his best, he's the third greatest at the weight.

Funny thing is I was asking the same question for three years before he fought Klitschko.
If anything a good lay-off might do him some good, whether it's the recover from his injuries or to reconsider his place in the sport.

I for one am actually looking forward to a Gomez comeback. I think he can still do something worthwhile in this division if he is more active. This long layoff won't help anything though.

How about Chagaev vs. Gomez? :think

That's a high stakes match-up. Winner is back in the title picture, loser on the outside looking in.
