He was extremely entertaining with his corner pep talks. "Do you believe in magic?" When talking to Povetkin through a translator was one of my favourites. If I was a fighter with him in my corner i'd laugh too much.
Where is Teddy Atlas? Now that is the question we all need answered. Boxing needs Teddy right now. He's not the boxing expert we deserve. He's the boxing expert we need.
"Sometimes we can bring people back. You can bring back your father. Because when they're talking about you, they're gonna be talking about his son; the new world champion!" That translator deserved a big cash bonus after that if he managed to nail it in the heat of the moment.
There was a great interview with Sulecki and a translator earlier this week. Sulecki gave one of his answers in English, and the translator still translated and it wasn't what he said lol. He translated English, into English, but just made a generic response up like "America is great, the people have been really kind".
lol if you wanna good laugh check out those programs following Gassiev and Usyk about in that tournament. Heard one guy in the street passing Gassiev say oh Murat you’re such a handsome guy lol.
I'll check it out. These boxing translators are such easy jobs though.... You have never heard a translator say 'Well my coach was telling me to use my left hook more on the inside, to counter my opponent doing 'x'. They're just generic answers everytime.
Oh I totally agree. If I recall, they stopped Smith from appearing on ESPN boxing broadcasts too lol. It was a pretty big debacle. You can find it on YouTube
Teddy’s stock in his insight went up when he was coaching Moorer as a heavyweight. He lit a fire under Michael in the Holyfield fight and he nailed it when he warned Moorer to be careful and that George was looking to set him up for a big right hand. That was some biblical prophecy right there!
He sounded more like a madman who got lucky on a few occasions to me. Very little tactical help, just nonsense about believing in magic.
If you haven’t already, YouTube the Moorer / Foreman fight. You can find it on Legendary Nights. If that was luck then you can bet there’s a lot of trainers out there wishing they had that type of luck on the biggest night of their careers. Better to be lucky than good...
With the greatest of respect, 'George is trying to land that big right hand' isn't exactly prophetic is it?
