Badly phrased question but I think you guys will get it. I want actual data, statistics, perhaps some strong anectodal stuff. Not that I agree with PEDS (or the dumb excuses such as contaminated beef/boar etc and blatant lying and dishonesty), or the unfair advantages that come with it but it is not clear, in terms of objective data, how one boxer taking PEDs jeopardises anothers life.
Oxford University actually did a study on whether PEDs allow boxers to create more head trauma due to unnatural punching powers or stamina allowing them to land an unnatural amount of hard punches in a fight. The additional head trauma did seem to be linked with increased risk of coma, brain bleed and the like. But the scientists had to admit that there was no proof this jeopardised anyone's life because life is what you make it.
Being punched in the head repeatedly with or without steroids is pretty dangerous, give a guy more stamina to be able to punch a little harder, faster, longer..... Doesn't take any studies, common sense should prevail here.
It seems obvious. But there aren’t actually any solid facts to back up they inherently make someone more dangerous.
as a boxer you wouldn't bother taking them unless you believe they make you more dangerous. they are not performance enhancing unless they make you more dangerous. right?
you obviously have too much free time, so why don't you make your own solid facts? f.e. punch yourself in head before and after taking PEDs, and bring the results here (and videos as proof). Thank you in advance for your noble work.
The sport itself puts the fighters life in jeopardy. The fact that every fighter knows and understands this, yet will take PED's speaks more of the morality and character of the fighters and the sport by allowing it to happen. Is it as dangerous as loaded gloves? No. But taking an illegal substance that allows a fighter to throw more punches, harder for a longer period of time can be dangerous.
