Anyway, point is Mayweather is and should be held up to a higher standard by us.

Martinez is coming off of 2 ballsy fights.

Do you not consider Mayweather a tough challenge for Martinez? Marquez was hardly considered one for Mayweather.

i consider martinez a good challenge for floyd...id love to see floyd bring in boo boo for sparring....i think it would be awesome if those two could develop a bond and maybe andrade could start working with the mayweathers a little bit

I see the parallels, but there is no hypocrisy. mayweather is held to a greater standard than either jmm or sergio martinez because of his clearly all time great skills. thats really it. neither juan manuel marquez nor sergio martinez can claim all time great skills in any category. maybe martinez in the area of metrosexuality, and juan manuel in the art of **** consumption, but that's where it ends

Its credit to Floyd that no ones sees this as a mismatch.

Add to that the fact that Martinez is a LMW. And that JMM was an ageing SFW fighting above his best weight that Floyd forced to fight at welterweight

He got himself to blame for that. Not that there's anything wrong with it, unless you are saying you're the best, the goat.

It's simply to do with the level of challenge due to the repsective abilities of the fighters. JMM is great, but Floyd is physically bigger, better head to head and also better in a P4P sense. So when the fight was made it was obvious that people were going to complain a bit. From Martinez's perspective however, he is physically bigger, but almost certainly not better H2H and definitely not better P4P - I don't expect him to win that fight, so the level of challenge makes it acceptable for Martinez.

I think people have become a bit carried away with Martinez since the last few rounds against Pavlik. Let's keep some perspective, Floyd would be so much faster that the fight would be a complete mismatch. It's a terrible style matchup for Martinez.

The situations are similar, but not parallel.
JMM was an old man moving up 2 weight classes, 3 past his best weight, to fight Mayweather who is in his prime ... and Mayweather came in over the weight limit to boot.

Mayweather is not a small WW and he has fought at LMW before, while Martinez is a genuine LMW (who has fought at WW before) who happens to have beaten a questionable MW Champ, and who's previous two fights (loss and draw/robbery) have also come against former WW's.

And YES, Mayweather is held up to a higher standard, you want to know why? Ask him!

Mayweather doesn't have many options left, he has almost completely missed the boat to get some great names at their prime on his resume. His only chance to change that now really is Manny Pac. I would still give him a lot of credit if he beat Paul Williams, but in all honesty PW is far too slow and does not make enough of his physical advantages so I would expect a wide UD for Floyd. The Martinez talk is silly, it would look good because of the weight difference, but it is a terrible style matchup for Sergio.
