Hi all am new to the forum,Have been a casual boxing fan all my life and a hardcore boxing fan for the last 5 years. Thought I would kick off with, where do people see Cotto going from here? Do you see him going after the winner of Berto and Mosley? Should he try and avenge his defeat to Margarito as his ban is almost up? Maybe another catchweight fight maybe against Paul Williams at around 150? Is he good enough to move up in weight and "Cherrypick "a champion at 154 and become a 3 weight world champion? Or is he shot to **** and should retire? I personally would like to see him face back up to Margarito as the first fight was an epic battle and with everything that followed the Mosley/Margo fight I think this could be a perfect fight for both boxers to dispell anything that was or was not an attributing factor in their first fight.
Welcome along:good. Two options for Cotto, IMO: Rematch with Margo or the winner of Mosley-Berto (i.e. Mosley). Cotto has said he doesn't want Margo to have a payday off of his back, but when he sees how much he can make for the rematch he might reconsider. That said, I've heard that Margo can't make 147 anymore so the fight might not materialise. Mosley has three options after he beats Berto: wait for the Pac-PBF winner and see if they want to fight him, go for a Cotto rematch or fight Williams. IMO, there are no other fights worth mentioning for Mosley than those 3. Cotto's two best options are Mosley or Margo, but others might like to see a Clottey rematch- other than that there are no other real attention grabbing fights. I see no reason why he would want to fight someone as awkward as Williams after being dismantled by Pacquiao. We shall see what happens.
Welcome and avoid the general forum!I think the winner of Mosley vs Berto after a good rest may happen. Its hard to know whether hes shot after the Pacman and Margarito fights,i certainly dont think too many more beatings like that will do him any good.I personally still think he has plenty to offer.
i would like to see him fight Margo again but their is an ethical question on weather Margo should be allowed to fight at all, let alone get a big fight. i don't think Cotto is shot and i still look forward to seeing him fight in the future
I always wondered how Margo ever made 147 in the first place. And I got to agree people's ethics and moral's go out the window to a degree when Cold hard cash is laid out on the table. I personally dont see a fight with Mosley happening too late in Mosleys career and I think he would only want Pac/PBF. If Berto wins however that fight could happen.
This would be an interesting fight but not sure if Cotto would fancy this again. And does Clottey bring enough to the table?
Clottey is a world class operator but is badly managed, I had him beating Cotto last time and he could do it again.
I think I had Cotto up by one if I remember, but it could have gone either way. At about round 10 or so it looked like the fight was Clotteys but he seemed to gas out. Cotto took a fair few shots in this one and I dont think there would be enough money in it or no title on the line for him to want seconds.
Im a huge Cotto fan, but I dont think I'd like to see Cotto-Marg II. Cotto isn't quick on his feet anymore and his speed has decreased. He throws wide arm punches and still gases in the second half of fights. His confidence/self esteem is at an all time low, his face swells up easier, he cuts easier, and his corner sucks.
I don't really see a benefit from fighting Margarito. He either wins against someone who's had a lengthy layoff and no doubt people will say Margarito wasn't the same, or he gets beat up again and then he's not left with a lot of options. If Margo still has the chin he'd beat Cotto again imo.
Or what about a fight against Magic Matthew Hatton? Hatton was clearly winning against N'Dou, I don't even care what Lovemore says, he was obviously winning and was robbed. He should be the welterweight champion of the world right now! I couldn't think of a more deserving opponent either. I mean OK he hasn't even come close to cleaning up the domestic scene, and he did lose to Craig Watson, but he comes across as a very pleasent chap and very respectful to his opponents. :thumbsup
I dunno, all the options suddenly seem quite tough given Cotto's recent form. I'm not talking about losses but the manner. Once he starts getting hit, after a certain point he seems to enter a state of retreat and runs around the ring. Cotto can't fight like that.
