Maidana is the first person with power he has faught since Prescott and he really had no choice. There is a damn good chance if he gets caught hell go down again and you know it. It doiesnt matter what was predicted, the Barrera fight should have been a no contest anyway and somehow he got a world title shot off the back of it and a joke in Oisin ***an. He hasnt earned his place. Thats the only problem I have with him. Ill judge his career later on but I cant see it amounting to much once he gets sparked again. There aint nothing that can be done for a chin like that.
I disagree. I think it is very bad. It hasnt been tested since or before Prescott to that extent so its impossible to make a judgement. We'll see if Maidana manages to catch him clean. Im picking Khan though. Maidana was very clumsy agains Ortiz who Khan is a much better boxer than. Khans chin is Maidanas shot.
Awwww he doesn't deserve it? It's not fair! This content is protected And of course it matters what was predicted! Because he's proving people wrong by winning and exceeding expactions, you idiot! What do you want him to do? Drop the title, come back to England, and start from scratch so that he has to 'earn' his place?
How did he prove anything by beating a shot to **** Barerra. I didnt predict him losing. I knew Barerra was shot. He didnt deserve a title shot after that fight. It not even like it was a shut out, just a clumsy headbutt. You really over rate him, he hasnt made any decent defenses yet.
How did he prove anything? Oh for **** sake. He proved those people who said he was taking a risk and will lose, wrong. That's what he proved. Yes the actual win didn't turn out to be a big deal, but at the end of the day he still proved the opposite by winning every round until the head-butt occured. But **** it, I don't care too much for that win anyway, so let's move on, let's talk about what he's doing today. Many of his detractors claimed he would never be put near a big-puncher again. Oh look, who is he fighting next? That's right, the biggest banger of the LWW division. A man who at the beginning of this year was predicted to knock Khan's head off should they meet. Now that they're finally fighting, Khan all of a sudden has become the favourite and is expected to win? And should he do so, it's no big deal? Wait a second :huh. In between that time where Maidana would smash Khan's glass jaw, and the fight being finalized....what exactly has changed for everyone to alter their prediction? Either Khan's improving and beginning to exceed the initial expectations they had of him....or they're just irrational haters who once they decide they don't like a fighter, they'll criticize him no matter what.
What are you talking about won every round up to the headbutt. Thatll be about half way through the first round then. Id rate his win against Maidana. Its the first decent defence hes made. Its a mandatory though and he had the choice of take the fight or vacate. I rate Khan to win because hes the better boxer and has Roach in his corner, but if Maidana catches him clean I think Khan will go down. Mitchell was also odds on favoirite to beat Katsidis. Odds arent the be all and end all. Lets see what happens when they actually fight before we make judgement.
I think you'll find it occurred in round one. However Khan would have clearly won, the reason the fight was made was because they saw Barrera fight Sammy Ventura in China and realised he was shot to bits, fighting above his weight and knew either they took the opportunity or someone else would. Ultimately, the only reason Khan is facing Maidana is because he's the mandatory, if they didn't Khan would be stripped of his belt. It isn't just because he's a puncher, but because they wanted a bigger name. They wanted Marquez, but he declined the offer and chose to fight Katsidis at 135. If they couldn't have that they wanted the best at 140 to fight themselves with Khan facing the winner.. however didn't end up like that and then everyone else was tied up.. so it ended up being Maidana. TK now retrospectively claim they wanted Maidana all along, however its bollocks.
My bad, I meant until the fight was stopped. I think Maidana will win by early stoppage. They're not the be-all and end-all, but they certainly do and should matter. Which is why I was made to eat my words by Katsidis in that fight, and I now regard him higher. And I totally agree. Let's see what happens. But like I've just said, I have Maidana winning by stoppage, but if Khan proves me wrong, then it is something I have to give him credit for.
We can argue until the cows come home, on whether they wanted to fight him or not. I really don't give two shits. All that matters now is that they're fighting. That's what we wanted, and that's we're getting. Why continue moan about how it happened? It's like the Mayweather/Mosley fight. People accused Mayweather of only taking it because he was forced into it. Who ****ing cares? We wanted him to fight him, and he did. He ripped him to shreds in the process, that's all that matters - the result.
You cant make a judgement from that. Barerras face was covered in blood for the remaining 3 rounds. He coiuldnt see atall. It was a discrace that it was allowed to continue until they could award Khan the win. I will also rate the Maidana win if he pulls it off though.
I agree. The cut and blood definitely hindered Barrera's ability to fight. Which was a massive shame, because I was expecting him to take Khan deep into waters and really test him. That cut messed up everything for both the fighters and the fans.
All respect to Mitchell but it seems to be the usual excuses from a fighter who has lost, i simply think he underestimated Katsidis big time and wasnt expecting to be hurt by anything, credit to him for admitting the occasion might have got to him though.
