He was supposed to fight Golovkin a while back and he suffered a bad back injury. He hasn't fought since.
He was a guy I had a lot of interest in. Very talented boxer. Damn shame. He is supposed to fight this year if his back holds up.
http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/i...-titlist-gennady-golovkin-serious-back-injury shame liked his style.
His back is basically chronic. All but officially retired. I did not follow the link above but I assume it addressed that issue?
It's a shame how things turned out. He shocks Jacobs and pretty much the entire western boxing world, and his reward for wrecking GBP's plan was to get blackballed from the network. New management takes over, makes an effort to bring him back, and then the back injury cripples his career. I wish we'd have gotten to see what a healthy Pirog could've done with network support instead of scorn, even if only for a couple years. As it stands, he's another talented "what-if" story that boxing has all too many of.
Unfortunately, the level of upper body movement he used puts a lot of stress on the back...even if he is able to come back, I don't think we'll ever see that kind of slickness from him again...
Biggest waste of a solid fighter in recent memory. I thought he was always overrated by most and would amount to far less than most would have figured, but that doesn't mean I quite predicted three fights post-Jacobs KO and then apparent retirement. I appreciated his obvious quality and fighting style.
^^ Another damn good question, the man is like 31. Probably has another good 5-6 good years left and he's wasting it fighting cans. Someone tell me who his promoter is so if i ever go pro i'll make sure to avoid those ****s lol.
