Because it hurt like hell and you wouldn't gain anything except bruises. If you spar you get "tough" anyway and it helps you learn to box.
i did the ball drops but sometimes the ball hits me in the liver and it ****ing hurts. do you think that is bad?
Who is dropping the ball? I've never heard of anyone being so inaccurate. That is awful. It doesnt matter whether you braced yourself, tensed up for the punch and stood there and took it (wow! You already knew it was coming). The ones that happen in reality and HURT are the ones that catch you while you are in the middle of doing something else. The only way to deal with it is, MENTAL FORTITUDE.
Do stomach punching drills. Have him punch you all around your stomach. Don't listen to what everyone else says about how you can't toughen yourself up. You can, do that. Do it in numbers, like have him punch you 50 times, then switch, then you do it, then switch,.......etc.
You don't gotta go crazy with it. The point isn't so that ya'll will be spittin blood at the end of the workout. Just tell the guy how hard you want him to hit you. If he ain't hittin you hard enough, tell him to put something on it. Have him hit you with lefts and rights, hooks and straights, change it up. Do sets of like 50 punches or 30 or however many you feel is necessary.
