I didnt pick him to win especially in Columbia. But having said that he was clearly winning this fight until the TKO. But i vividly remember seeing Holt against Thomas Davis and thinking he wont be able to bang with the big heavy handed hitters at 140. So what now does he just go around trying to find Light Handed fighters or blown up Lightweights to keep his career going. He has talent its just a shame he has a chin like Zab Judah.
Well said El Rey. You can teach all the skill in the world but if you cant take a punch thats it. You will forever be a ESPN Friday Night Fighter.
Lol o god. Stop it with the Zab Judah stuff! Zab went 11 rounds with Cotto, getting hit left and right. I guess Torres has a worst chin then Zab, since Zab lasted longer with a stronger Cotto? Zab could've went that whole fight. Holt's chin is worst then Zabs. God, lol people still hold that one fight against him lol. Ever since Holt got KO'D by Thomas Davis I just knew he wasn't going to make it to the tops. When he got hit by that one right hand he was done and he really doesn't recover well or has his senses about him when he is hurt. I feel sorry for those types who have a lot of skill and promise but their chins or recovery ability betray them. Sad times.
He has a lot of talent, but more often than not, his chin will fail him when he's in with big punchers. He could become a belt holder though.
Significant SETBACK for Holt!! He's now gonna have to fight and beat a rising contender such as a D-Hop or Lamont Peterson to put himself back in the real championship picture. Friggin SHAME!! I have yet to see the fight and I'm wondering about the circumstances of the KO. Holt must learn and work harder!! many commented on his mindset being relaxed before the fight. I wonder if overconfidence in his ability didnt get the best of him. If it did?? He had better approach every round of every fight like it's his last, from here on. If he really wants success.
Judah doesn't get KO;d by the Thomas Davis' of the world. And I think Holt should try to get a rematch with Torres.
I think its going to be a long climb back up unless he gets a favourable ranking and doesnt waste time in trying to get into a eliminator to become someones mandatory. Not sure if people are going to be clammering to fight Holt, risky guy to take on and now his cred aint all that high.
I'm not colombian and I saw the fight last night. There was an english commentary, so this fight was somehow telecasted to the USA (an indy PPV, i guess). The left hook that dropped Holt was a monster punch that would have dropped almost anyone in the division. The stoppage was a little bit early, but nothing to really complain about. Holt was taking lots of shots against the corner and not really fighting back. He would have not survived the final round anyway. Holt lost the chance to stop Torres in the 6th by being too cautious over a fighter that was ready to go. It looked through all the fight that Holt lacked confidence on his chin. He ran way too much (think of Cory Spinks) while being a challenger in the champ's hometown. I knew that Torres was goig to catch him sooner or later.
I think it's going too far to say Holt can't win a belt. It's not like he got dusted in the 3rd round. Now, I agree with the gist of his having a poor chin, and worse that he doesn't seem to recognize just how fragile he is. On the other hand, he lasted longer against Torres than I thought he would. I'd like to see the fight to judge exactly how it was going and whether the stoppage was legit.
He was robbed against Torres, he won that fight except for the bogus stoppage, he wasn't at all hurt. He should go forward like Marquez did after 'losing' to John
friday night fights main event fighter until his next knockout loss, then friday night fights undercard fighter until he gets knocked out again, then gate keeper for top20 140 pounders until he gets cracked again by that time he'll be a 147lb journeyman, short notice fighter and probably remain in that status until he's no longer cleared to box
