Where to now for Hughie Fury??

He is not a bad fighter, for him to do as well as he did against Parker - as smelly as the effort was, suggests he would give other guys a really good (albeit potentially ugly) fight. I would say if he had a chance to fight someone along the lines of Dillian Whyte who isn't technically good enough or fit enough to stay on him and make him miss most of his jabs the way Parker did would make his stock rise a bit.

 

He could try being a professional sparring partner and preparing guys for hit and move types. I don't see much of a professional career for him, TBH. He's box office poison, can't crack an egg, is aligned to the most reviled family in boxing, has an idiot of a promoter, fights irregularly, is known for being flaky and pulling out of fights, has a terrible fighting style that makes others look bad, and has the personality of a dry turnip. There's really very little to work with there.

If he wants to continue his professional career he needs to rehaul his entire team, fighting style and approach to the game. Otherwise he'll continue to be rightly ignored.

 

Hughie should bulk up and work on developing strength and power. If he can retain half of his current levels of agility while also acquiring some offensive ability he could still become a factor at heavyweight.

The potential is there and he is still really young but fighting (if you can call it that) the entire Parker fight in reverse indicated that either he wasn't ready for the step up or maybe he just doesn't have the appetite for a fight like the Fury clan would have us believe.

 

Has talent, but is too inactive and doesn't seem that ambitious. He took absolutely no risks in the Parker fight and expected that he'd get a hometown decision just for going 12.

 

Should fight David Price.

Hughie can’t bust a grape. Price is less sturdy than one.

Resistable force vs. moveable object.

In my boxing career path analysis to which I have no successful experience whatsoever lol, I think fighting popular/top guys like Whyte keeps Hughie in the limelight. Team Fury know that Hughie is difficult to sell, even in his home town. Cue in Dillian Whyte. He needs to fight popular guys to make that money and if he wins, well he fast tracks his return to the top ranks.

If Hughie starts back at the bottom, it might be awhile before he comes back. If you look at his highlights, he doesn't normally run excessively like he did against Joe. Hughies got good footwork but geez that was something else against Joe. Hughies still young so he could bounce back later down the track but thats if it was meant to be.

He doesn't need to put on any muscle; he just needs to throw with conviction and sit down on his shots more. That involves putting himself at risk, however, and unless he's willing to do that he'll never be anything more than a glorified points fighter.

He also needs to get a damn personality. He's one of the dullest, driest fighters out there, a million miles away from his cousin.

 

Very odd that guy going on about knocking Parker in four rounds and then hardly throws a punch,who on earth wants to watch him after that?

 

He has decent skills but has an uninteresting and very UNentertaining style


no knock out power to speak of, either.


I think Hughie is just not good enough to compete on the world level


But he may prove me wrong; after the loss I think he needs a confidence builder fight, then turn it up and take on someone really decent to reestablish his credibility

 

He needs to Adopt a more positive and offensive type style for starters. But obviously its back to the drawing board he goes. Is like to see Andy Ruiz get a crack at him.

 

Never this simple. Both guys have styles and brains which result in the other anticipating where risks are too high - tactical fights can be boring to watch but a lot of the not throwing/landing stuff comes down to the fact that both guys had laid traps and spotted the other's traps, Parker was just being more aggressive and had the ability/inclination to try his luck and nullify the traps. Hughie had clearly expected and relied on Parker's defense being weaker than it was.
