I agree, the blow in the first fight was understandable.

Damn! Imagine if that judge hadn't made the scoring mistake. Pac would've been a 9 weight division champion by now.

    Btw, CONTROVERSY ALERT

I was watching this fight again the other day and on the HBO broadcast, between the first and second round, you can HEAR someone say "3 points, 3 points, not four!" basically saying that JMM should have 7 points for that round, not 6!

That person says something after which is unintelligible.

WHO IS THAT PERSON! What does he say after saying ''3 points, not four''?

Pac was robbed of a point that would have resulted in his victory.

It's funny cuz marquez was complaining about the bad decision joe cortez did on the humberto soto-francisco lorenzo 1 when he DQ soto for hitting lorenzo while he was down.

In respond cortez said i could have stopped the fight after the 3rd knockdown marquez suffered vs pac in the first fight and he was right.

    Eh, I don't know eze.

I did think that Marquez was a bit surprised at Cortez counting. But it's impossible to tell for sure.

Also, it doesn't change the fact that there was an infraction. Even if Marquez is leaning back and holding the bottom rope alone, with one hand, and not touching the canvas, that is still a KD. Clearly, only the rope is holding the fighter up, so it's a clear-cut KD.

Pac didn't even let Cortez make that call because he gave him zero time. It was a clear infraction either way IMO, and it should've been a point off Pacquiao in my eyes.

i'll go back and read some other posts but my outrage was that the ****ed up scorecard wasn't corrected and pac wasn't rightfully declared the winner

Watch the video, clear as day marquez reaction is he's surprised and immediately pops up.

Pac probably didn't know that or was paying attention. Marquez was holding the ropes to NOT go down. Pac made sure he was down.

No way. Marquez was trying to hold himself up, inviting Pac to punch him basically.

The onus is on the fighter to know the rules though. If Marquez is clearly down according to the rules (holding the bottom rope to stay up is IMO clearly down) then it's Pac's responsibility to be aware of this and avoid hitting a downed fighter.

It's akin to hitting a guy who is on his knees before the ref can step in and rule it a knockdown, IMO.

Well Marquez was holding the second rope from the top, 4 ropes total. Nowhere near the bottom.
