I look at these forums and Porter is the new Boogeyman a.k.a. Floyd killer, where was all this hype after the Devon Alexander fight? I dont recall anybody saying Porter would destroy Floyd after he beat Devon? Why is that? Could it be that even in victory Porter looked like sh-t against a better fighter than Malignaggi? Or is Malignaggi now a better fighter than Devon?

Very true, but a shoutout to "kahntard" as some would have called him Lazarus for saying Porter was "damn decent" and more than capable of upsetting Alexander

I first saw him vs Alfonso Gomez, he looked good, always got him and Gary Russel Jr mixed up

porter beat devon but he didn't look spectacular doing it. hence no hype. now knocking out paulie who has never been koed before will get you hype.

    ko's do that

Maybo not "spectacular" but he looked pretty ****in impressive, it's not like he grinded out a win, he battered Alexander from how I saw it

and like with Paul, he put it beyond a shadow of a doubt

Khan's known about Porter for a while. I remember when everyone was knocking Khan's performance vs. Diaz. He was always reminding everybody how well Diaz fought Porter and that Porter was a tough guy to spar at Wild Card.

What I'm realizing about boxing is that the boxing public has a very short memory. Porter struggled in the Diaz fights but now he's boxing's flavor of the month. Malignaggi has been washed up for years according to many fans on this board. But somehow demolishing him like no one ever has is extremely impressive (malignaggi isn't nearly as athletic as he was against cotto). Heck I remember against Khan in 2010, Malignaggi was questioning whether he still had the same speed. That was 4 years ago.

I told people that Porter was top 5 before he fought Paulie.

You don't beat Alexander like that unless you're good. Bradley beat Alexander pretty clearly. Matthysee struggled, but I had him winning by a couple rounds. Maidana got school. Porter beat him 8-4. Not as impressive as Bradley, but did better than Matthysee and Maidana.

Reason was he was relatively unknown. After beating Devon, people thought it was a bad performance from Devon and thought Devon was over rated. Then after beating Paulie, it was confirmed that it was more of Porter being under rated, thus the hype.

I really like Porter and think he's pretty good. But let's look at his last 10 fights and you see he's far from a KO artist and never extremely impressive.

I think the Paulie fight was about being able to walk through his shots and mauling him into submission early. So I can't see him repeat that against anyone with decent punching power.

The one thing I think about when reading this thread is how unfortunate this whole top rank -GB cold war is. There's all these cross match-ups that cannot be made and it's not fair to the fans. Porter-Pacquiao, Porter-Bradley, Thurman-Bradley, Khan-Pacquiao, Pacquiao-Mayweather are just a few examples. It's also difficult to gauge the competition levels because these guys have very few opponents in common. Bradley has struggled against Pacquiao and yet he looked amazing against Marquez. Wouldn't it be interesting to see how he'd fair against a Porter??
