Here is our list. 1. American Football (NFL and College) 2. Basketball (NBA and College) 3. Baseball 4. NASCAR 5. Golf 6. Hockey 7. Tennis 8. High School Football and Basketball. 9. Soccer 10. Womens B-Ball 11. Horse Racing (only the big 3 races though) 12. Boxing and MMA, and MMA is moving up. You also have to realize, that we give seperate coverage to college sports. So the NFL and NCAA have entirely their own coverage seperate from one another and their own fanbases. Same thing with NBA and NCAA. Not sure how College Sports are over their.
They're non-existent. A sports club who sign a youngster will offer education but the ones who make it are usually first team players in their teens or early twenties.
Oh KG. A little exagerration. womens bball and high school football/basketball is not above Boxing. Sry Lol
I should have had horse racing on my list that gets mainstream tv and newspaper coverage everyday and there are bookmakers shops everywhere over here.
Oh, yeah thats different than here. Honestly, College Football should be #2 on that list and College Basketball #4. But I figured that people outside this country wouldn't get that the US actually considers them seperate when we discuss them locally. But they are both bigger than boxing by a mile, and College Football may even be 1A when considered....it is just as popular as the Pro level.
There was little support because there was little faith. I think most Americans felt Wlad was going to win whether they said so publicly or not. Americans are not used to being dominated in the Heavyweight division many are in shock and denial. For some, it's easier to deal with it by ignoring it or looking the other way.
its sad that we are arguing over this when as boxing fans we should be banding together regardless of nationality to keep our favorite sport alive. write letters to sanctioning bodies demanding unification if enough of us do that and we can get exciting uni fights people will start coming back to boxingand it would then start to attract some more promising youngsters and go from there. i love boxing which is why im here listening to all of your veiwpoints and i dont want to see it go away
Oh yes they are. Compare ESPN's full blown coverage of the NCAA Womens Tourney or UCONN vs Tennessee compared to a boxing match. Sure, DLH vs PBF got that kinda coverage. But as a whole, they aren't even close in the mainstream media. As for High School Sports? How many people do you think could name the great High School Football teams in this country? Not alot, but more than they could name a HW champion right now. High School Football gets HUGE local coverage and Nationally televised games (5-6 a year now). Same with High School Basketball. Ever since Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett. You know how many LeBron James games I saw? Or OJ Mayo...from your neck of the woods. ESPN covers them...but not boxing. They cover them even if it's only as a stepping stone because of recruiting. Seriously, look in your newspaper around the time of High School Football or even on USA Today and look at the same time as a big boxing match. See which gets more coverage.
i'm a regular down at middlesex (sadly, listened to many an old timer telling me about the good old days). domestic rugby>>>domestic cricket but international cricket absolutely squashes international rugby.
LOL...come on now, thats the #1 sports network here. But if boxing is #1 for you, I can't blame you for not watching. But you are in Southern Cali, a hotbed for great High School Football. California period actually, home to De La Salle High School who had something like a 155 game win streak up until 2 years ago. Or Long Beach Poly High. They show some of their games on Prime Time ESPN. You know high school football and basketball actually get those national preview magazines every year just like College Football and Basketball now?
The only reason you travel for your fighters is because it is rare that you have a great fighter.. Look at the history of boxing and there were so many great US fighters thats why there isnt more support for just one fighter
Yeah, then why until the last 20 odd years, did americans travel the globe? Johnson won the belt in australia, ali travelled the globe etc etc. We travel for our fighters the same way we follow our football teams, passion, and passion that imo can't be matched.
