Well? I was with my friend at his house and we were going MENTAL as Joe was giving Lacey a PROPER BEATING.
Watching it on ITV in my kitchen, smoking some high grade. At the time I was pumped, but Lacy wasn't that good. The manner of Joes win is very, very impressive but pretty much every Elite fighter aroud the 12 stone mark would've beat Lacy as one sided as Calzaghe did. Still, it was Joe who did it, when the Lacy hype train was rolling BIG TIME. In terms of resume, Carl Froch is only a fee amazing feats off of trumping Calzaghe IMO.
i was in my living room badly hungover still from the night before, i went proper mental as he was dominating! haha you've got to remember that at the time jeff lacy was massive in the US and everyone was tipping him to beat calzaghe but joe absolutely destroyed him, i remember him sitting in his corner saying lacys power was ****! haha
fortunate enough to have been there and if my memory serves me right im sure boxing news went for lacy over joe as did just about the majority of people?
Also, I would say 'battered' or 'beat up' were more appropriate terms to describe what Joe did to Lacy. Bob Foster crushed Dick Tiger. That is crushing someone. Not winning a wide decision. People were tipping Lacy because Calzaghe was not that highly regarded at the time. If Calzaghe was already having 'super fights' then no one wouldve tipped a guy who had beaten Scott Pempberton and a past prime Robin Reid to win. Lacy never looked that good before either. Re-watching some of his fights prior to Calzaghe (before his injury in the....Tsypko (spelling?) fight) and he was hardly a beast.
Fair play Grant :good I was excited enough staying up at home, I bet watching it unfold live was f'n quality :deal
Nose bleed seats at the MEN. The fight went as expected, though you couldn't see how banged up Lacy was.
Sat on the sofa with my dad both on the edge of the seat... my dad a lifelong boxing fan said its 1 of the best performances he's ever seen.
