To be fair don't know if I saw it live or later, but like everybody was shocked. In those days used to get Boxing News from the newsagents{know better now, subscribe}and wasn't uncommon for it to be late.Anyway on the Monday following went in to get it.Front page said"Tyson will Bust Douglas".Kid handed it to me,said "Really??".Pissed myself. This was Douglas best night,IMO he'd have beat a lot of so called greats. But only on that night. They said to Holyfield that he must be disappointed as he wanted to fight Tyson. He said "I don't want to fight Tyson.I want to fight whoevers got the title".GREAT fighter.
Lying in bed, my beautiful ex was a student at the time woke me up with a coffee and told me, I didnt believe her, I just couldnt see Tyson losing.
And if yo mama hadn't walked in on me(as you know, she has immaculate timing) you would've been on a bit of toilet paper. Only kidding mate.Couldn't resist.:good
Living in Brooklyn. I didn't see it live. I was 10 years old. I can't remember exactly how I found out, but I do remember being absolutely devastated, and caught up in the "ref cheated" hype...actually, I think many people forget how big of an issue that was after the fight. I remember people complaining that he counted too slow when Douglas got knocked down, and too fast when Tyson got dropped.
Yeah I remember that and thought it was a non-issue. Tyson was gone, could barely fit the mouthpiece in and wouldn't have recovered even with a good count. I did also feel immense pity for him.
In tears watching as a 9 year old...Tyson was my favorite boxer. Living in NJ, the youth all felt we where him...Too young to care about his outside the ring problems...Couldn't believe what I saw..I still can't really watch it to this day.
Watching a game of rugby on TV in New Zealand. It wasn't on TV - which was unusual, most Tyson fights had been, but I guess they thought it was a formality - and then a ticker tape announcement came on saying Tyson had been KOd during the game. That only used to happen for huge news events.
watching it on HBO. It was shocking to say the least. Even though Mike was losing badly, I was still shocked when he went down.
