So where were you on the night of November 22nd? The night we saw an assassination of a champion, the night boxing found a new superstar, the night Tyson beat Berbick?
I was only 9 years old and waiting for Hogan to face Andre at WrestleMania III. But I remember thinking Spinks was the champion and didn't understand how there could be more than one champ in a division. Asked my father who Tyson was and he said "the next big thing".
Tyson put a Nak Muay clinic det nait. Sow scayentific wiz hiz elbows. Akshuali Berbick's record iz not det bed. On par wiz Bernardo Mercado , John Tate , Mike Weaver , Greg Page , Leon Pinks , Scott LeDoux & Duane Bobbick. Probably beter dan Weaver , Leon Spinks , LeDoux end meibi slaitli beter dan Bobick.
I was 12... it was my cousin's birthday (he turned 10). Anyway, we thought Tyson was a bad mofo. We didn't think too much of Berbick. We knew Berbick wasn't the real champ (or even the best of the alphabet champs)... and to be honest, neither was Tyson until he beat M. Spinks. I was gonna pick Tyson over everybody he fought in those days though.
