Jack cleaned out SMW, beat Dirrell, Groves, robbed of clear wins against DeGale and Bute (although that has since been overturned). Beat the brakes off Cleverly in his first fight at LHW. Has one of the best active resumes in boxing and is comfortably top ten p4p already. Where does he rank if he beats Stevenson?
P4P doesn't really mean much, but if he beats Stevenson he becomes the #1 light heavyweight, since Stevenson has been the #1 light heavyweight for years. Kovalev and Ward wanted no part of Stevenson despite Stevenson being long in the tooth for several years.
P4P? Nope! But like mentioned, he would become a honorary Vegas swat member, forcibly ending a 3 year hostage situation, and one of my personal heros.
I am edging towards Jack winning here. Not a big fan of either, big ask for Jack on foreign turf but Jack SD anyone??
They are both on foreign turf, no one in Toronto knows Adonis Stevenson. He has 0 fans here. Unless some Montreal fans make the trip over (Which they probably won't). It's as neutral as can be.
I like Ward, but he clearly avoided the Stevenson fight. He had three belts and could've easily landed the Stevenson fight, but instead was trying to land a fight with Bellew, who Stevenson destroyed. When the Bellew fight didn't workout he retired instead of even trying to unify with Stevenson. Kovalev's was also the easier fight, since Kovalev is very one dimensional and always had suspect conditioning. Also, Kovalev's own team clearly didn't want the fight with Stevenson when they shamelessly backed out of a purse bid they demanded. In hindsight Kovalev would've been better off fighting Stevenson than Ward, since he would've at least made good money. Stevenson (26-1, 21 KOs), 37, of Montreal, retained the title by one-sided decision against Sakio Bika on April 4, he and promoter Yvon Michel, whom Kovalev and Duva had accused of ducking the fight, professed their desire to make the match, be it to negotiate terms or let it go to a purse bid, where the promoter with the biggest offer would win the promotional rights. Then Duva announced that she would not participate in the bidding process, which came as a surprise considering how much she dogged Stevenson for supposedly avoiding the fight. Had the fight gone to the bid, the fighters would have split the winning figure 50-50 and the winning promoter would control all aspects of the promotion, including all the revenue streams and determining when, where and on what television network the bout would take place. Michel said he was disappointed in Duva's decision and the she was "playing games." "They asked to be the mandatory. They asked for a 50-50 split if we don't come to an agreement and we went along with that," Michel told ESPN.com. "Adonis does not have a contract with Showtime, but we are affiliated with Showtime and PBC but we managed to arrange that if we were going to lose the purse bid we could have gone on HBO and we thought it was the same on their side. http://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/12692849/sergey-kovalev-bails-adonis-stevenson-purse-bid-order
Which ten guys would you have above Jack p4p if he beat Stevenson? Taking the DeGale robbery into account you wouldn't find more than a handful of boxers with better quality resumes than Jack.
