Where will Hopkins rank All time if he beats Calzaghe?

Mikkel Kessler, at 168, is better than Trinidad, De La Hoya, Taylor, and Eastman at 160 as well as Tarver and Wright at 170/175.

Eubank, Kessler, Lacy, Reid, Veit, Mitchell, and Brewer are all WORLD CLASS opposition.

 

oh you're right. de la hoya is a myth anyway. and jeff lacy, i mean obvious he's right up there. all you have to do is watch his most recent fight where he threw all of those deadly left hooks and won in 3 rounds. man that guy's scary. and talented, don't forget talented.

 

The way I see this fight going is that Calazaghe NEEDS to win convincingly in order to avoid criticism. Obviously Hopkins is 43 so people will be sure to point that fact out if Cal just barely gets by him.

Hopkins can win by a narrow/ugly victory and he'll get full credit because he's old and past his prime. Of course he'll get criticism because the judges will be accused of being bought out, though. If he wins big and convincingly, then of course Hopkins gets max credit, secures his ATG status further, and Calzaghe will be doomed to people saying he was overrated.

 

A prime Jeff Lacy at 168 is better than Oscar De La Hoya at 160. I'm not talking P4P because Oscar obviously takes it with ease.

Look at PERFORMANCE not the NAME. I said Lacy WAS a world class fighter - perhaps not now, but he certainly was when Joe faced him.

Kessler was a unified champion at 168 holding the WBC and WBA belts. He had made several title defenses against B level opposition and barely lost a single round. When you defeat B levels with the EASE Kessler did, it's proof of an elite fighter.

Kessler is also a hell of a fighter. He has a mastery of distance, a shotgun jab, and beautiful straight right hand, great accuracy, and excellent speed. Not to mention his very good power. It's really a great thing to watch. He's better than Jermain Taylor or Kelly Pavlik without a doubt. But a poster like yourself wouldn't understand because you are into the big names and don't look at in-the-ring-performance.

Kessler is not a nobody by any means.

Top 40...where do you have him? Higher or lower?

Top 50. I am making an overall ATG list as of now, I have done a lot of revising, etc, still not happy with it at all, but am only about 33 places deep. Still have a few places to go for sure to go before I get to the Hopkins/Mayweather bit. So I'll say without a doubt top 50 though.

 

I've done a three ATG top 100 lists, but they take so much time, effort, and thought that I wont make another for a while. Plus, I was never completely happy with them. I'm interested in seeing your list once it's completed.

 

A question I've never asked you, but am interested, what is your simple top 10? Or do you have one you're happy with? Mine may need a bit of revising(in fact I'm in the process of it right now) but as of now, this is what I have.

But the more I look at guys like Barbados Joe Walcott or Mickey Walker, the more I think they deserve a spot. Really is a hard thing to do. I have no problem with anyone keeping Whitaker out of their top 10, just as long as he's top 20. He could be as low as something like 17 on my list even, depending on how you see it.
