Does he stand and box? Close the gap? Put the pressure on? Counter? Or does he just do what he always has done? If Gavin Rees is to have any success in the fight, where do you think he gets it? And what are Adrien Broner's weaknesses? Can Rees take advantage of any?
He has to make this a scrap from the world go. Broner has never been dragged into the trenches and had a real dogfight with anyone yet. Gavin needs to upset his rhythm by laying on his chest and smothering him. Roughhouse tactics. If he gives Broner any room at all to let his hands go and settle then he'll pay for it dearly. My concern though is that the American officials will be too biased and will break up the action too soon. American referees have got form when it comes to ****ing over British fighters by protecting the American fighters. Cortez in Mayweather - Hatton anyone?
Rees height might turn out to be an advantage here. He has to stay close to Broner,he can't allow himself to be kept at range. Rees height might make it easier to get inside and pile pressure on.
Get on Broner's chest from the word go and set a really fast pace and a really high work rate and basically try and suffocate Broner.
Me too, I sometimes feel Broner doesnt havnt the reactions to pull of the behind the shoulder guard, like mayweather does, I feel if Rees can apply relentless pressure and when he gets inside throw a lot of punches, he might not catch him with the first 1/2 but the third or fourth punch might get through.
If Rees starts fighting on the backfoot and out of range, he will get absolutely battered until they stop the fight. As the smaller guy, its common sense, he has to close the distance ESPECIALLY against a fighter who's ultimate target is to get you moving so they walk you down later in the fight. But IMO he also has to find a way of boxing his normal game but closer up. If I was Lockett, I'd be showing him Berto vs Guerrero on loop.
I dont think Ree's will have success anywhere tbh. Usually for the smaller, slower fighter like Gavin against a natural boxer puncher, you would want him to fight on the inside, the problem though is that Broner seems to fight very well there to. In his fight with DeMarco, a larger, and better fighter (IMO) than Rees, Broner battered the Mexican on the inside more than he did on the outside, and by the end was teeing off on him. Granted Rees wont be quite the sitting target that DeMarco was, but he will get broken down and stopped by the bigger, stronger, and ore quick handed fighter. Cant see this going the distance unfortunately. Hope Gavin proves me wrong and gives the fight of his life though :good
From what ive seen in clips of Rees in training it appears the plan is along the lines of get in and throw punches in bunches and get out quick and move and try not letting broner cut the ring off, maybe Gavs height might help on the inside but i wouldnt want him just standing there like demarco did
Rees will get mullered if he tries to stay on the inside. To stand any chance he needs to exploit Broner's most obvious weakness, his flat feet. Rees needs to circle & jab, get in & out with his attacks & be very disciplined.
using his head, like Ward did against Kessler would be good as well. Plough in with it, that would get Broner rattled. Defo agree that Rees has to upset Broner's rythmn, come in at angles & keep Broner guessing, dont become predictable.
Broner is very good on the inside. Rees wont have the strengh to bully Broner so imo he has to use educated pressure. Rees has a good jab, he needs to try and use this to get inside, land shots, then get out real quick. Hard fight for Rees stylistically.
