You don't understand the debates for him not ranking top 100 because you simply don't know anything about boxing or its history, period. You probably rank Zab Judah and Andre Berto in your top 10 ATG's and think a guy like Roberto Duran was "mad whack" or something. Shane beat Oscar in their first matchup in a good fight, though most people are of the mind that he was robbed in the rematch. Aside from Shane's wins over Oscar, Oscar has the FAR deeper resume. He is basically 1-1 with Shane while having a much deeper secondary resume. Trinidad? Let's compare resumes, shall we? Tito: Camacho, Campas, Carr, Whitaker, Thiam, Vargas, Reid, Joppy, Mayorga, as well as guys like a past it Pendleton, Waters and the dubious Oscar win. Mosley: Vargas, De La Hoya, Collazo, and his LW conquests like Johnson, Molina, Holiday, etc. I'll give the edge to Tito, pretty clearly.
Top 100 im just not sure where maybe in the 80s or 90s. Shane Mosley was a great fighter but him losing twice to 2 different guys kinda hurts his ATG status. Had he pulled out atleast 1 win over Forrest and Winky in the rematches his stock probablly improves drasticually. However the resume is still solid he took on one of the best Junior Middleweights of his era and beat the hell of him twice that being Vargas,1st man to legitmately beat Oscar and did it in Oscars prime and once more in 03,add some B level wins over Holliday,Leija,Molina,Diaz and Collazo along with 3 World Titles and a breif reign as p4p King you got a first ballot HOFer. The fact that id favor him agianst alot of the great Lightweight Champions in history also helps him on my list.
i don't feel that Mosley's losses to Winky should hurt his legacy. On the contrary, considering how well he fared in the rematch against what seemed to be the worst type of fighter for him, i think it should enhance his legacy
Mosley isnt an ATG. I think back in 98, 99 and 00 he had the skills to become an ATG. Didnt happen. Oh well
To me i just dont put him as an ATG I will say he was a great fighter but i also rank Trinidad and Hoya ahead of him, more for mosleys lack of big wins... not because of his losses. I dont care that he lost to winky... winky is winky. But he just doesnt have the wins to go past Tito or Hoya IMO... def Hoya
Where would you rank De La Hoya and Trinidad? Personally, I have Trinidad in the top 100 (anywhere from 70-100) and De La Hoya in the top 60-70.
If I'm not mistaken, the list you posted had Mosley ahead of Carlos Ortiz. Any particular reason for that?
When I did my hundred (which was not good, though the 75 was OK and the 55 was fine) Trinidad was considered but cut. 105-115. Oscar was between 70 and 80 if memory serves.
My top 20 is down to an exact science almost. The guys from 21-40 are basically where I want them. I'll make a few changes every now and then based on film review and analyzing their resumes a little deeper with an emphasis on comparing it to others ranked around them. The rest of the guys in the top 50 are pretty set. After that, especially around 70, it gets more and more difficult. Sometimes I find myself wondering what I was thinking and I constantly take names out and switch positions up. Making a top 100 list is a hell of a task if you take your time, which is why I give everybody credit for posting one. You'll never be able to post a list without having to defend it rigorously.
