We all know that Manny right now is consider by almost all experts and writers as the #1 fighter in boxing pound for pound. If he comes out victorious he would absolutely retain that spot. But what about if Cotto wins, would he be consider the new number one guy in boxing? Something is telling me most would just put him to top 3, but not number one. I guess the only way is if he ko's Manny impressively. What you guys think, will the media and writers put him number one?

No way is Cotto number 1 for beating Pac. 3 or 4 should be right.

I can't take the question seriously, because it's never going to happen. I just cannot ever see it. Ever, not even in my wildest dreams of who might beat Pac.

Seriously, I think most boxing fans will look back on this era and say 'I remember Pac in his prime'. You're witnessing a huge legacy in the making.

In 35 years of watching the sport avidly, I have seen very few people with his attributes and I just hope everyone laps it all up for as long as it lasts.

So if you beat the number one guy in boxing, you still belong at 3 or 4? So who will be on top of Cotto? Names that come to my mind Hopkins, Williams, and Mosley. Who else?

Just by beating the number one doesnt mean that you are number one. You will leap up dramatically though thats why i would have Cotto at number 3 if he wins.

If Cotto beats Pacquiao then the winner of PBF-JMM will be the P4P #1.

So PBF retires, has been inactive, but if he defeats JMM at a weight were JMM has never fought... hes number 1... thats pretty tough. So what about if Cotto defeats JMM, would he be number one:lol:. Hes fighting the guy that beat Marquez. This doesnt make sense.

Welcome to the world of boxing. It isn't meant to make sense. But it makes for an excellent sport.

You're an idiot if you don't see it as a possibility. There are a lot of factors to consider with this one. First of all, Pacquiao has been hurt and/or knocked down by some small fighters (Morales/Marquez). He has yet to be hit by a strong WW (DLH could not get his punches off), so if he was hurt by small guys, imagine what will happen if a strong punch connects from the bigger Cotto. Also, Cotto will not be drained as DLH was (fighting at 145, 1 less than he weighed against Clottey). Also, DLH, although drained, was never seriously hurt or knocked down by Pac (he quit because he knew he couldn't get his punches off, so saw no point in taking any more punishment). This just shows you how a true WW handles Pacs power, and Cotto does not have a glass jaw.

So although you can say Pac is a favorite, to say it is not possible for Cotto to win is foolish.

Honestly I just cant wait for this fight. I like both fighters and its not going to disappoint us. This fight is worth the money guarantee. :happy I made this thread because I know even if Cotto comes out victorious, he still would not get full credit for what he has giving the boxing world. His time is due for respect.

This is what im trying to say. If anyone gives Cotto a good fight, their quickly are recognize and move up in rankings. It seems Cotto doesnt move up, no matter who he fights, most of the time the top welterweights. He still ranks no higher than 5 in the boxing community.

People were saying he was the number one welterweight NOT the number one pound for pound. If Cotto beats Pac, who i am pulling for to win, he will definitely crack the top three but he will need another big win to be number one.
