His knockout against Ezzard Charles was stunning. He was durable and had a hard enough punches his first fight with Joe Louis was a controversial one many felt Jersey Joe Walcott should have won that one. I think he is good enough to compete with the current crop of cruiserweights for sure, he might be considered too short at 6ft for the current heavyweight division though but I wouldn't discount him.

Always be a good hitter because he was the kind to hit u w a shot u couldn’t see. Which are always the worst.

Walcott had enough power in either hand to drop anyone like a bad habit.

    Totally agree Ferg.

The power Walcott threw was a result as much of raw strength as impeccable set up. The man knew how to walk the best of technicians into a punch. Seriously I think people underrate his knockout of Charles, my intention isn't to overrate it or to fault Charles, but I don't know many fighters who can feint as subtly as Walcott did to set up that left uppercut (may be more of a shovel hook). To sneak such a devastating punch past Charles takes a wealth of skill.

Marciano also gave him ample praise (following both their retirements), noting that after his career Walcott was the most powerful puncher Marciano ever faced, going on to say that night he believed he (Marciano) was in the ring with the greatest. Not to mention Walcott knocked Marciano down for the first time in his career. twice. Marciano was a freak of nature and came out with an atom bomb of a right hand.

I think Walcott has the potential to stand and bang with the best of them, every aspect of his game was tight and fleshed out at age 37. If only he could have had proper and consistent training during his entire active career, imo he could've been a generational talent as I feel people rank him under Charles, justifiably so. Walcott just had so much potential that he only began to actualize in his twilight years as a fighter.
