Where would todays era of Heavyweights rank in the 70s era ? Lets put them all in the mix with the 70s w/ Ali ,Frazier,Norton ,Foreman,Chuvalo,Quarry,Ellis,Terell,Bugner,Young, Bonavena, Shavers, Cleveland Williams, Bunny Johnson, Holmes vs. Wladimer Klitschko,Vitali Klitschko,David Haye,Nikolay Valuev,Ruslan Chagaev,Eddie Chambers,Alexander Povetkin,Juan Carlos Gomez,Samuel Peter,Tony Thompson How do all these guys match up . Does the era of today even get into the mix of ranking along these 70s heavys if they were all activley fighting at the same time ?
the klits would do ok but only ok they would not be champions the rest would well be completly out of there depth. i would also include holmes in your list of seventies fighters
The Brothers Klitschko would be about sixth and seventh in the top 10. None of the others would get a look in.
yeh i can find myself in this opinion. ali, frazier, norton, holmes, foreman, maybe even bonavena were all way better.
Most of todays top ten would either get their act together or end up working as sparring partners. The Klitschko brothers would obviously be a force to be reckoned with. I could see fighters like Chambers, Haye and Povetkin making a splash.
yall are gettin to it , but tellme more about if all these guys were activly fightin' in the same division same time frame. yall all know that the klt bros would keep up the same bologna as they do today . who knows maybe the 70s guys would form an alliance . lol. who would be champ? who get a schoolin so forth . where would everybody rank?
I think the fighters today are underated...Most of them have extensive amatuer careers..The Klitschko's would do well in any era and be a force to reckon with. How does Ruslin Chagaev, Tony Thompson,Sultan Ibragimov,Calvin Brock,Valuev,Sam Peter,Oleg Maskev,Eddie Chambers, Povetkin,Areola hold up against Mildenburger,Al blue Lewis,Oscar Bonavena, Quarry,Ellis,Shavers,Lyle,Norton,Evangelista,Blin,Jose Roman,Cleveland Williams,Zora Foley,Patterson....I think todays fighters would be better for the most part but its 6 of one and a half a dozen of another
Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Quarry would be at the top, I think. Chuvalo for his durability would probably outlast a lot of these guys in 15 round fights and be up there too. I don't think we know how many of those fighters would have really dealt with the size of these guys today. A lot of them are just overweight, but I think they are as a group pretty strong, although none of them are super talented.
I think that the top ten would at most times look like: Ali Foreman Frazier Klitschko Klitschko Quarry Norton Povetkin Young Chambers The top five might jumble up a bit depending on who's Champion of the World. Neither Klitschko would breach the very top spot, but it's very possible for one of them to achieve number 1 contendership at some point. Quarry will establish himself as the best of the rest provided that he's fighting fit. As the decade closes, Holmes will emerge as the heir apparent, cleaning out the scraps of the late era.
