Where would you rank a fighter who beat a prime Chuck Wepner 12 times?

Wepner was technically in the Ring top 10 for at least 3 years. It wasn't that uncommon for a fighter to have 3 or 4 fights a year back in the 70s.

    Thus:

Where would you rank a 70s heavyweight whose only fights at a world level were twelve dominant, consecutive wins over Chuck Wepner between 1973 and 1975?

That would make our hypothetical fighter 12-0 against Ring-ranked opposition...

You mean The Bayonne Bleeder Chuck Wepner, the model for the Rocky Balboa franchises.

12-0 against Ring ranked opposition can technically mean one opponent - but causally/generally interpreted it implies plural - as opposed to stating - 12-0 against a Ring ranked opponent.

As @Unforgiven already succinctly stated, it would put you above Wepner but not much else since it wouldn’t speak for your abilities against varied styles and accents.

I might’ve said, as Wepner’s proven, iron clad superior, you could possibly benefit from Chuck’s successes otherwise but it seems he would only have time to fight you during the specified duration - just fighting one another in such non-progressive fashion could have you both also slide down and possibly out of the Top 10 maybe?

One positive I guess would be that you would (or at least should) become extremely adept at defending against rabbit punches.

The fact that Wepner was ever ranked in the top 10 by Ring magazine in "heavyweight golden era" casts serious doubt on the credibility of the magazine as well as the general quality of the heavyweights at the time.

Wepner was a bum, let's face it.

Isn't it strange. "He was ranked" means so much to idiots squinting to put there heroes on a pedestal. It sounds good till you just turn on YouTube and look at who they're trying to make out as a valid win. Smoke and mirror really. "He has twelve wins over ranked opposition" it's an undeniable fact, but then you have to consider all the context and most importantly how good they actually fought :sisi1 But no, no it's easier to just say "There's a reason they're ranked at the world level"

To be fair, as others pointed out when I originally made this atrocity of a thread, most fighters don't fight the same dude 12 times. :sisi1

    EDIT: Except Sam Langford.

    Chucky’s back?

I thought this thread bled out some time back.

How much Chuck can one chuck into a Chucky thread without chucking up?
