Anderson Silva's remarkable accomplishments in MMA Yeah, Silva did lost 7 of his last 9 fights, and did pop for performance enhancing drugs later in his career (possibly to heal his injured knee). But lets not forget what he achieved during the peak of his career. Here are just a few reasons why Anderson Silva is easily one of the greatest of all time -Silva holds the UFC records for most title defenses and longest consecutive winning streak. Ten times he defended his gold and 16 straight times he had his hand raised. Staggering numbers in such an brutal sport. -UFC/PRIDE Unification, Third Defense vs. Dan Henderson, March 1 -Dominated and embarrassed UFC light-heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin -8th title defense against Vitor Belfort -Held the belt for over 2400 days
Silva is among top few P4P fighters and definitely no worse then top5 ATG,with his last few years having little impact on his standing,as he was never the same fighter after that gruesome leg injury against Weidman 7 years ago. He obv still has the skills to compete and was winning rounds against Hall, like he did in his other recent losses against other to guys like Bisping( he should have won imo) and last year against Adesanya, which was an impressive performance given Adesanya current standing, but unfortunately doesn't have anywhere close to the speed and reflexes that his style of fighting relies on. Given he didn't make the move until he was 31,it's not unreasonable to believe he likely would have had an even longer reign as middleweight champ and even beat most of those top guys who reigned at light-heavyweight
Top 10 P4P #1 MW Anyone having him outside top 10 is insane. He was overrated during his prime but hes still easily top 10. Anderson is the only MMA fighter to have beaten top 5 fighters in 3 different weight classes. Mach Sakurai @ WW Bunch of fighters @ MW Forrest Griffin @ LHW
If his prime was overrated, and past his prime was abysmal, then how do we arrive at “easily top 10?”
Together with Fedor perhaps the most dominating fighter ever in his prime, so he has a case for nr 1 and is probably at least in the top 5.
It's getting strangely forgotten that he went up to LHW and absolutely wiped the floor with the guy who had been champion just a year before. Epic performance.
Its relative. He was overrated in that people were calling him the GOAT when he wasnt on that level he was still a tier 1 or tier 2 ATG at worst
