He's retired now, so what's his status?

Obviously nowhere near Ortiz, Benitez or Gomez but do you think he would make a ten?

How does he compare to Trinidad or Camacho?

    Any other thoughts?

Below all those except Camacho. Great heart is the first thing that comes into my mind when I think of him.I watched the fight this morning and felt Ali might have gotten him out of there had he pressed his advantages, but it was nice to see Cotto at least finish on his feet.I thought the fight was reasonably close too.

He make it into my top 10 Puerto Rican fighters, I think. Will work on the list and then confirm.

Randomly thinking of Puerto Rican fighters I envision - as who has been already mentioned - Ortiz, Benitez, Gomez, Trinidad, Camacho, I can add Pedro Montanez, Esteban DeJesus, Alfredo Escalera, Jose Torres, Sammy Serrano and Juan LaPorte. I think Cotto was better than LaPorte and Serrano so I can see him in a top ten. Of course, Ithis was off the top of the head so I'm sure I missed a whole lot of fighters who should also be considered.

    1. Ortiz
    2. Gomez
    3. Benitez
    4. Cocoa Kid
    5. Escobar
    6. Trinidad
    7. De Jesus

These are the guys I would comfortably rate above him. So at the highest, he's number 8. But I wouldn't call him a lock for the top ten. For me, he's in the same tier as Camacho, Rosario, Torres, Escalera, Calderon, and Hernandez, and I don't know if I'd rate him above all of those guys. So I'd say that pretty much any spot between 12 and 8 is fair.

He was not in the classof a Benitez or Trinidad. Better than Dejesus. He lost a lot and lost one won 2 kind of fighter. Camacho? I rate him near Camacho maybe higher. Hector was a lot of flash, but really did not do much after 135.

Just like in Panama you have Duran way up here then everyone else way below. Just as in Argentina you have Monzon way up here and everyone else way below. In PR, you have the great as Gomez way up here and everyone else way below. Cotto ruined his legacy with his puzzy middleweight charade and his cherrypicking. A terrible sore loser. NOT an alltime great. Goodbye miguel and good riddance.

The Margarito 1 fight took something out of Cotto. Arguello gave Alfredo Escalera two bad beatings, but at least Alexis didn't cheat.

I think the top 4 practically pick themselves:
    1. Wilfredo Gomez
    2. Carlos Ortiz
    3. Wilfred Benitez
    4. Felix Trinidad

After that it gets tricky. From no 5 to no 15 is hard to separate but I'll say from 5 - 8 it's:
    5. Ivan Calderon
    6. Pedro Montanez
    7. Sixto Escobar
    8. Miguel Cotto

After that, it's any two from the following to finish the top 10:
    -Jose Torres
    -Esteban DeJesus
    -Alfredo Escalera
    -Samuel Serrano
    -Wilfredo Vasquez
    -Hector Camacho

Cotto definitely deserves to be in the top 10.

Miguel Cotto ahead of Carlos Ortiz??????

Please ban yourself. That might be the dumbest **** I've ever heard in my life.

    Cotto couldn't shine Ortiz's shoes.

Cotto to me, was never a great fighter. A very good one, but more a product a watered down era which made it easy to pick up belts. I think he was SEVERAL classes lower than the "Big 4" of PR boxing - Ortiz, Gomez, Benitez, and Trinidad. I'd also rank him below Camacho, Escobar, and DeJesus.
