For each of these scenarios, state where you would rank Marquez (both as a Mexican legend -- in relation to JCC, Finito Lopez, Salvador Sanchez, Ruben Olivares, Vicente Saldivar, Carlos Zarate, Humberto Gonzalez, Morales, Barrera, etc) & as a great of this generation (who does he over-take... Tito, Barrera, Morales, Mosley, B-Hop, DLH, Floyd, Pacman, RJJ ? who... lodge him in there somewhere in your own rough order).

[More concerned with as a generational great, but lovers of mexican boxers please address the other issue]

1- if he beats Floyd but nothing notable after
2- beats Floyd, wins a title at 140* (4-weight champ, now)
3- beats Floyd, wins titles at 140 & 147** (5-weight world champ, now)
4- loses to Floyd, wins a title at 140* (4-weight champ, now)
5- loses to Floyd, still goes on to win titles at 140 & 147** (5-weight champ)

^ If he loses, assume he loses a competitive fight to Floyd.

    * - beats a decent young fighter at 140 -- Bradley, Khan or Maidana
** - beats a quality welterweight such as Cotto

thats too much lol but i think if he beats floyd and avenges against pac man convincingly pretty hard not to rank him a top3 if not the greatest mexican fighter of all time,in relation to p4p since pac man is at his peak and mayweather not too far of it doesnt he have to be ranked the best of this era aswell especially since he's taken manny so close already?

1- Ahead of Morales & Barrera ; t5 p4p from this GeN... (just ahead of B-Hop)
2- imo just behind JCC ; t4 p4p this GeN, ahead of De La Hoya.
3- Ahead of JCC ; Probably numero uno! this GeN, at worst t3 if RJJ is widely-put as no1.
4- Maybe just ahead of Morales ; t6-7 p4p from this GeN (below B-Hop; in & around Morales, Mosley & Tito).
5- behind JCC ; t5 p4p from this GeN (ahead of B-Hop.... ; clearly overtaking Mosley & Morales).

imo the only way he overtakes Chavez is if he wins titles at FIVE-weights AND beats Floyd (this ofcourse assumes that's the end of it and there is no re-match + not another 'official loss' to Pacquiao in the future).

i think it's clear that if Marquez beats Floyd, he has a shot to do something even bigger than beating the long-time p4p-1 & that is to make a challenge on JCC's status as the best Mexican to ever box.

Beating Floyd would be half the battle done. The other half would be Cotto, or someone of similar quality, at 147 for a welterweight title (a 140lb title is no problem in comparison to beating Floyd and then beating Cotto or another welterweight champ).

i don't know man, Morales & Barrera did a shitload to justify being talked of in the same breath. And maybe all they need is time for their legacy to start to taste better, just like a fine wine getting better with age!

50 yrs down the line, maybe then, they'll get their due credit in history.

as far as i'm concerned (and if you couldn't already tell.. i'm a HUGE fan of los boxedores de Mexico!), if he beats Floyd.... + wins titles in 2 more weights.. he deserves the mantel of greatest mexican boxer ever.

He may not have been able to beat JCC @ 135 (ofcourse, at 135, Marquez is still a lil small and could still make 126 or 130 at worst... n had slowed down a little -- footwork & reactions) but beating the p4p number1 & then being a 5-weight world champ is huge on a worldwide, all-time scale.

Keep in mind: Marquez, Barrera & Morales are only 3-weight world champs. Same with JCC.

Now most of the other Mexican legends stayed at one weight-class.. or were rated at 2 tops (i know, it wasn't as trendy or common back then to shoot up the weights, but still!). Not many of them were long-time divisional kingpins like a Hopkins/Calzaghe in terms of length of rule.. not even close [except ofcourse in the case of Finito Lopez.. -- the creature Marquez existed as in a past life lol].

Marquez will have surpassed what others like Barrera, Morales & JCC had done going up in weight... & done what no-one has ever done before TWICE.... + no-one will have touched those 2 things by the time he retires (Mexican boxer who is a 4-weight world champ... & then after, Mexican who is a 5-weight world champion!).

Plus, beating Floyd... then beating Manny (or if ur a Manny fan, then BEING ULTRA-COMPETITIVE with the filipino typhoon who himself has reached ATG status & gave hell to any1 he ever fought). Beating Barrera. Beating a welterweight (hopefully Cotto... if not then Berto or Clottey I hope)... and beating a young lion at 140 who goes on to have a very good career (bradley or khan!).

THAT **** IS HUGE FOR LEGACY! HUGE!

even if he doesn't get the full cred he deserves in Mexico, being the solidifed 2nd behind JCC on ur own is AN ENORMOUS ACHIEVEMENT given how well loved JCC was!...
